So.. Does anyone know whether, in the new codex, an IG basilisk can fire directly? I mean if it cant then it sucks a load and theres no point taking one...

By the way i already posted this but in a different place and during my work hours so it wasnt too great, thats why i poted it again... thought more people would find it here and make it clearer.

If it cant fire directly then theres not much point taking the basilisk in any other game than a spearhead set-up. Any Other set-up and its going to get one shot off. and it'd be pointless in plannetstrike.

infantry win fire-fights, tanks win battles, but artillary wins wars.

ALL Ordinance Barrage weapons may fire directly (BRB pg 58, rt column, 1st para), unless it's specifically stated they may not (colossus?).

The Griffon and the Deathstrike too.

But yeah, unless otherwise specified, all Ordnance barrage may Fire Directly. Just remember you lose the barrage Rules and the Minimum Range.

It can fire directly, like most barrage weapons, but it will still have a minimum range, because that is covered in the weapon statline rather than in the rules for barrage weapons.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Correct

Wrong, only Ordnance Barrage may Fire Directly, Normal Barrage (such as Mortars) may not.

Wrong. Page 58, BRB:
If fired directly at the target, they are treated exactly like normal ordnance weapons (ignoring the minimum range in the weapon's profile).

So... let me get this straight...

1) A basilisk CAN fire directly
2) It CAN fire within 36" but loses the barrage rule

It says this on Pg 58 in the rule book

Have i got this right then? Or will there be more debating?

Oh and Thanks A Lot for helpin me out on this

infantry win fire-fights, tanks win battles, but artillary wins wars.

Curiously Codex IG was not the first to be affected by the 5th ed rules for ordnance barrage weapons. That honor goes to the Space Marines, who can now move and fire their whirlwinds and ignore their 12" minimum range by firing them directly. Nobody seemed to notice until IG came out and then we got people asking this exact same question several times a week for about two months now. People actually started screaming about how the Basilisk got nerfed before the codex was even released. And then there are also people who like talking about how much better the new mortar is than the old mortar with exactly the same profile. It just goes to show that a lot of people don't know the rules as well as they think they do. I expect we'll still have newbies confidently telling other newbies that the Basilisk can't shoot inside 36" a year from now.

Yeah, just don't forget while you can now move and fire Ordnance Barrage Directly, you cannot move and fire Ordnance Barrage as Barrage unless you are Fast or have a Special Rule saying otherwise.

I noticed the Whirlwind thing back about a year ago, when the rules came out. Pointed it out to our local Marine players as a bennie.
Gwar, pg 58 says vehicles that remained stationary can fire Ord Barrage, not seeing anything in Fast to change this. Am I missing something (or did I catch you drinking again?)

Edit: Never mind, found it, page 70.
