I'm wondering if Sergeant Telion is a good choice to put in my scout squad?

For 50 pts he is a must have in a ranged shooty scout squad.
He does 3 thing for your squad:
1. He gives the squad stealth without taking camo-cloaks. This makes him more of a 20pt upgrade because most likely a scout squad is going to have camo-cloaks and have 10 men in the squad.
2. He can give a heavy weapon in the squad BS6 if you do not want him to shoot that turn.
3. He can pick his targets...not just the unit but specific models in the unit with his rending bolter that will rarely miss. He can take out the "real" threats of the enemy units. So that Nob with power klaw/ any other power weapon/ power fist wielding model/ any heavy weapon models basically pick 'em up. This single ability is worth his 50 pts in my opinion.

If they are snipers, yes. He's great. If not, no. His potential is wasted unless your squad is standing and shooting.

Adding Telion to your SM army is showing them pure love! He's awesome, for a sniper scout squad ofc. Sending Telion into melee is like sending Rambo to participate in the miss universe contest. A good thing to add to the squad which also contains telion, is a scout with a missile launcher (or maybe a heavy bolter, but missile launcher is better). As Drummerholt1234 said, with telion's ability to let the scout "borrow" his BS of 6, the scout can make a nice shot with the missile launcher to hunt down tanks or other vehicles, or a crowded pack of enemy soldiers if you want to. Also, with the the rule from the latest warhammer 40k rulebook, a balistic skill of 6 allows you to re-roll to hit, although you'll need a 6 to hit something with the re-roll. I assume that the scout who borrows telion's BS can also make that re-roll if he's foolish enough to miss.

He is a must have for sniper squads period he even pays for his own points as you do not actually have to purchase the camocloaks for the squad.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

I agree with drummerholt - his use is not just for snipers -any shooty squad (so say, 10 man bolter squad with a heavy bolter) can make good use of him. A HB hitting on 2+ is sweet

That is a good thing but remember that he pick who suffers wound from his shots so he can take out the "real infantry" threats to your army!

fair enough. I'm just saying that this is a good option for taking out an infantry squad close by - rapid fire bolters hitting on 3+, and the HB on 2+...can't complain! Basically, I think we all agree that for any shooty combination of scouts, Telion is a must!

Scouts are BS 3. They hit on a 4+. Although the 2+ Heavy bolter with Telion would be nifty.

Here's a nice combo. Use Telion with a Dreadnought. The Scouts fire on a squad just before the Dread charges. You use Telion to take out that nasty power fist, leaving the squad with no way to hurt the Dread in CC.

So if Telion is in the scout squad all scouts benifit from his stealth rule?

Nowhere does it state this but it would be great if this was the case.

Anyone know for sure?

Only Telion has the rule. However, the rules state that 'the squad' gains plus 1 to covers saves. Hence it affects the entire unit.

How hard would it be to convert a standard Scout sergeant into Telion? I wouldnt imagine it's too difficult, just make him look old, right?

Telion's got a beard and is bald I think, yes? You could replace the head of a scout sgt. with the head of an Empire trooper...I'm sure there are bald bearded heads in that range.

well, I wasn't really thinking of accuracy for the sake of WYSIWYG, but more for the pleasure of modelling him. It would be a fun and simple conversion project.

Ah well i buy a real copy of the all special characters. If I like how they do in my army I'll make my own model. That way I've a kick ass model and if TFG turns up the actual model.

Telion's model is pretty pimp IMO... it's definately worth buying.

However, Telion is not a squad (unless he is by himself), only single model within a squad.

Don't even need to say that, you're supposed to give them another name if you want to use them in your army. So just say you were creative enough not to use the mass produced model for him and figured if you have to name him, why not make your own one from scout parts. One step better XD

Can Telion be put in a non- ultramarine army and still have all of his perks?

Well officially Telion is an Ultramarines character...there are also ultramarine symbols on the model (you could cut them off though).

I don't have the codex anywhere near me atm, but my guess would be no, I don't think you can use him as the ultramarine telion in any other chapter. Unless your opponent agree's ofc. The basic SM codex contains non-ultramarine characters aswell, like lysander & Kantor, but I highly doubt that offically they'd be allowed in an ultramarine army. You could ofc make your own fluffy variant of telion for whatever the chapter is your army is part of. Same rules, different name.

Fluffwise Telion has made guest appearances in other chapters close to the ultramarines so if you're making a vanilla/ultramarinebased chapter (i.e one that follows the space marine codex and none of the religious extremist chapters that have their own codexes) you don't even have to rename him, you can just say that he is visiting as a rented teacher for the newbie scouts

Not true. Any special character can be used in any army using the same codex. I had a thread a little while ago about this actually. It's surprising the amount of freedom you have with special characters.
