It makes sense. Companies how have better options in regards to expandability that they don't have to worry about reworking a whole unit.

Anyway, the current generation of consoles is only starting to get to the half of their lifespan. Major Nelson said that while new XBox R&D is being done it won't see fruition for another five years. Just look at how long the PS2 got to hang around.

Well we've gotten to the point where graphics probably aren't going to get much better, so everyone can stop fighting to have the best-looking game.

Aye, I've seen a bit where they tried to get life-like but it just ended looking freakishly plastic.

I've heard this said before (and even thought it myself as long as 10 years ago) and it's been proven wrong time and time again.

Graphics can always improve, devs just need to think about it a bit more and to properly execute it. I remember on Discovery they did a fun series of documentaries on the video game industry and there was the head guy of EA Sports who said that stuff should look a bit fake, make it look to real and it will only look more fake. As an example he gave one of the NBA games, that was so realistic in the graphics department that the players looked like shiny plastic.

I agree with you cheese. I think there is some thing in the real world that video games will never be able to catch. i dont know what that something is though.

Correctly showing life-like human beings, an all-emersive physics engine (Havok comes close though) and real-time sound generation. Hang on, that last one doesn't count.
