Hi,

Let me start off by giving some background about myself. I started playing 40k around the time the rogue trader came out and played for a few years until the vehicle guide came out, that thing with vehicles as pictures with fuel tank and driver etc, and the clear overlay with the target to fire on a vehicle. Well as I got older I lost interest until a couple of years ago when I bought the 40k set with varas, I think it was Armageddon or something. Well recently I bought the black reach set and now am back into 40k. I have assembled half the miniatures from the set and started learning the new rules by playing mini battles with myself. Soon I hope to meet some new people to play with. I also have a few questions about 40k.

1. What happened to squats and I think slaan(sp?), I had quite a few of them and they no longer seem to be around.
2. Rogue trader was more based on skirmishes, I see the new planet strike is out. Is there a skirmish based add on?
3. Is there any way to strip paint other then acetone and nail polish remover? does this work on lead miniatures?
4. While assembling a terminator from black reach I had a major super glue accident, is there anything I can remove it with?
5. I found a terminator still in his pack. he has lightening claws and a cyclone missile launcher. It actually says on the pack now in pewter. Should I open this or save it unopened?
6. Can I use the old Mag Uruk Thraka miniature or do I have to buy a new one? Does he still have Makari with him as a standard bearer?
7. If I go to my local GW can they teach me more rules using their armies or do I need to finish painting mine?
8. Do orks still have a battle wagon? All I see is the ork trukk
9. Does GW still host leagues?
10. What is with all the LOTR stuff? How long has that been out for? I had an old set of LOTR miniatures that are lead but they never put anything else out.

I have armies of orks, space marines, genestealers, squats, and some slaan. Also some fantasy undead.

Thanks!

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Hey there, I am new also.

In answer to point 7, I went into my local GW and had a short demo game with one of the staff using their Black Reach set which went through most of the "core" rules you will need to get into a game.

I would imagine that most stores would be the same

Welcome Venerable Dreadnought!
It is good to see a champion of past ages return in a time of direst need.

1)They kicked the bucket.
2) There IS KillTeam, and I always prefer matches anywhere between 500, 1000, or 1500. But it seems that more and more playas want EVERYFINK on the field in one go.
3)I really wouldn't know. I'm no painting/modelling expert.
4)I don't know, is the whole guy covered in Super Glue? You should post this problem in the moddeling tips and such thread.
5)Save it for what? Actually you should, decide how you want your army to be, what colour scheme etc (Spaz Puppies seem to be a fav around here), then take it out of the pack and mess with it. (If you don't want a SM army then just sell it in the pack.)
6) You can use the old one easy, I'm afraid I havn't even heard of a Makari, I'm very young in the force here.
7)You don't NEED to finish painting your army to play, but it always looks better on the field if it is.
8) Yes there is a battlewagon, it IS pretty good, a tough ork vehichle for once and they can STILL aussualt out of it!
9)...I don't know. (Painting or Playing Leagues?)
10)...That is the corruption of GW from the warp. While I would never tarry in LoTR, (well...mabye a little) I have heard it can be pretty fun to play. It is getting a little silly with huge War of the Ring scale battles. I think it was only ever MEANT for skirmishes.

Welcome, and it's cool to have another old geezer on board. (I don't even know what Slann look like! Squats are kind of Centuars no?)

Fluffwise, the Squats worlds were destroyed by the Tyranids. Gamewise, GW didn't know what to do with them, so they got rid of them. If you have enough models, I've seen them used with the Imperial Guard rules to good effect.

Slaan are gone too, I'm not sure what happened to them exactly. They're now another one of the Old One's races, still bumming about here and there I assume.
2. Rogue trader was more based on skirmishes, I see the new planet strike is out. Is there a skirmish based add on?
Not that I know of. Necromunda seems to be the best skirmish-based ruleset for the 40k setting, although World in Arms is another, made by fans and based off of the Mordheim skirmish rules for WHFB.
3. Is there any way to strip paint other then acetone and nail polish remover? does this work on lead miniatures?
I hear something called "Simply Green" works. I also hear that brake fluid works for metal models, but I'm no expert on this kind of thing.
4. While assembling a terminator from black reach I had a major super glue accident, is there anything I can remove it with?
I think some shops sell a solvent for that kind of thing, although I don't know of any brands off hand.

In the future, you may want to consider using polystyrene cement for plastic models. I definately prefer it, although some people prefer super glue.
5. I found a terminator still in his pack. he has lightening claws and a cyclone missile launcher. It actually says on the pack now in pewter. Should I open this or save it unopened?
Do you need a terminator with ligtning claws and a cyclone missile launcher for anything?
6. Can I use the old Mag Uruk Thraka miniature or do I have to buy a new one? Does he still have Makari with him as a standard bearer?
The old Ghazzie isn't in Mega Armor (nor does he have a power klaw), so I think you may better off getting a new one, and using the old model as a nob or warboss or something.

I'm afraid Ghazzie has also sat on the luckiest grot around.
7. If I go to my local GW can they teach me more rules using their armies or do I need to finish painting mine?
I don't know. They'd probably let you use theirs for small demonstrations. Alternatively, you could test out some games with your models still unpainted.
8. Do orks still have a battle wagon? All I see is the ork trukk
Yep. The battlewagon is now a well-armored (but not particuarly well-armed) transport. Great for nobs, or just a lot of boys.
9. Does GW still host leagues?
I don't really know.
10. What is with all the LOTR stuff? How long has that been out for? I had an old set of LOTR miniatures that are lead but they never put anything else out.
Lord of the Rings got big with the movies. The game is apparently a good skirmish game, and War of the Ring is apparently a good game for ranked combat. I've never played though.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.
