Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I thought I remembered a thread about this, but searching with various search strings brought me no luck other than an error message.

If you mind war a an ork nob, who is leading a pack of 30 orks....what happens? The Eldar codex says to use the leadership of the model nominated. The Ork codex says to substitute base leadership with whatever the number of orks in your mob is.

I ran into this situation this past weekend. I had an ork nob get hit with mindwar, and an argument ensued. He said that it used the base, unmodified leadership of the ork model, and I called BS because the eldar codex doesn't add the words "base" or "unmodified" to the Mind War entry.

Basically, he was saying that my nob's leadership value was 7, and I said that my nob's leadership value was X, where X is the number of boyz in my squad when I have more than 7, which becomes fearless at more than 10. We never resolved it, but I passed the cover save against it, so we didn't need to.

That was a nice and easy answer and didn't even require anyone's head to 'asplode.

Yes. Stats cap at 10. Vehicle Armor Value is the exception.

The weirdboy seals the deal for this one; he uses the Leadership granted by Mob Rule for psychic tests, which are only ever done with the model's Leadership.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Ah, yes. My bad, forgot about that one. Out of curiosity, what models can actually get more than 10 attacks ( with or without Assault bonus )? CSM bosses with Daemon Weapons and who else?

Following get 10 or more attacks (without charging)

Abandon can get 6-10
Chaos Lord (with mark of khorne +daemon weapon) 6-16
Chaos lord (as above ^ +daemonic steed) 7-17
Carnifex (Crushing Claw+tusks+Scything tallons +tail-sythe+bioplasma) 4-12 (+2 attacks when charging)

if there are more i don't know about them.

So he'd still fail a psychic test by rolling a 11 or 12 even if there were 30 orks in his squad because he is testing on leadership 10 (the maximum) right?

But by this logic if a unit of 30 orks had to take a leadership test they would test using 10 leadership, but I thought they were basically fearless in large numbers because the mob rule reads that the orks have the leadership value of x (orks in the squad).

What is the difference here I am not seeing right now?

the mob rule has addition that if there are over 10 in the unit (so 11+) the unit is also fearless

Yep, it still caps at 10. It was even FAQ'd.

The difference you're not seeing is that the Fearless part of Mob Rule and the Leadership part of Mob Rule are unrelated. It's pretty much:

A squad of orks may substitute their Leadership with the number of models in the mob.

and:

A squad of orks that numbers 11 or more models is Fearless.

Thus, the Leadership cap regarding the first doesn't interact with the second.

::EDIT:: As Tri said.
