State of Michigan agrees to pay 500 class action plaintiffs accusing prison guards of raping them.

"This is a good deal for the state," said Deborah LaBelle, the women's lawyer. "If we tried all of these, the cost to the state would have been a billion dollars."

As long as some justice is achieved, perhaps it doesn't matter how practical the reasoning is.

I aprove of their ruling. I think Rape is one of the worst crimes that happen with any frequency, right below murder. I think the rapists should be the ones prosecuted, but justice in any measure is a great thing.

So when do the convicted rapists start having to pay out similar amounts to their victims?

I am slightly confused by this, what happened to the guards themselves. I guess I will read into this... man, this stuff depresses me.

That is an awful lot of money from the state though, I wonder why male guards were there in the first place really. What sense does that make?

Something just sounds odd about this whole thing, it has been going on since 1996. Have women just been jumping on the bandwagon as this has gone on?

Although I agree in part, the reason is that these guards are a part of the state/country and are acting officially and should represent that fact by their actions.
