So as the title says just read the Ork tatica on here. Just wanted to get some opinions from the Orks players on the Burna vs Loota. While having the same exact stat line, is the Deffgun really that much better than a template weapon or is it really in all how you play? I am looking at making a mostly mech shooty army with some CC if need be. I can see the benefit of having the lootas in a shooty army but I also think the Burnas would be nice for any other horde armies I may face. Thoughts?

I prefer Burnas over Lootas but I don't use any myself in my army heh.
The longrage shooting I leave to my killa kans and the flaming to my deff dreads and kommandos.

Lootas vs. burnas...
They are each incredible units, but they don't really belong in the same army list. Burnas are for assault based armies, and lootas are for shooting based armies, and you shouldn't combine the two.
If you're looking to make an effective shooting army, here's my advice:
Start with 45 Lootas in squads of 15; each in a battlewagon that sits on your rear line. Remember....Lootas are heavy weapons so if you move, you don't get to shoot. They're also a prime target because of their ability to deal death. Putting them on your back table edge gives you breathing room, and inside a battlewagon means that the wagon has to be penetrated before anything can even hurt you. Put a mek with a KFF inside the middle battlewagon and you've got 4+ cover saves now....this setup is horrendously hard to kill unless your enemy has significant outflanking resources...in which case you can stack the rest of your army on the flanks of the two battlewagons to protect them.
That's the basis for an effective shooting army. Beyond that you can go with shoota boyz, or deff dreads as troop choices, or whatever you like. Add a few units of deffkoptas, and you've got your own flanking ability to take down tanks so that your lootas can focus on other things.

Excellent this is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
Well I guess it is good that I am on playing on having a Shooty and a CC based army so I am glad I have 15 right now and I can just keeping expanded from there. Also another question I have is the Deff as crappy as the tactica make it sound vs the Kans? I mean we aren't talking as bad as a Chaos Dread here so why so much hate?

The Deff Dread *is* pretty useless.
However, given the army list I started you with of 3x15 Lootas and 3x battlewagons...
That takes up your 3 elite slots, and your 3 heavy support slots. You don't get to take any killa-kans with a good shooting army. For every mek you have, you can take a deff dread as a troops choice, but they're not going to do a whole lot shooting wise, so you're probably better off making big squads of shoota boyz that LIVE IN COVER so that they have a 4+ save instead of relying on that 6+ armor save.
You'll need troops in midfield to take objectives, and that's where those squads come in. A Deff Dread can march up the field, but its AV12, not terribly hard to pop. If you want to use them (and you can): Take a skorcha and a big shoota, or twin-linked skorchas, or a skorcha + extra DCCW on two Deff Dreads, and make them your flank support.
IE, your backline would look like this: o\|/o
Three battlewagons spread in a fork pattern to present front armor to the whole table (or a 3+ cover save to non-visible facings), and a deff dread on each side serving as flank support against nasty genestealers, bikes, and things that could come in and assault your battlewagons.
The whole shebang has 4+ cover saves, and the chances of anything getting through to your Lootas are slim. Deck out your battlewagons with some nasty guns....killakannon (then take squads of 12), kannon, 4x Rokkit launchas or big shootas, lotsa guns. The Mek in the middle; toss a couple of grot oilers on him, and now if you take an immobilized or weapon destroyed result, he can attempt to patch it up every turn. Rerolls with the grot oilers.
Aside from that, you have troops choices and fast attack choices open. You can use deffkoptas as objective denial forces on the opposite table edge, or to get rear armor hits on enemy tanks. And for troops; your goal here is to keep them in cover and alive until late game, when they can sit on an objective. Feth, you can even use a squad of cheap gretchin, stick them in cover and have them go to ground getting 3+ cover saves until you need them.

Don't forget, even as a troop, Deff Dredds cannot score, so you'll need some boyz.
