WOW is pretty much all I have to say. I pretty much knew the basic fluff before hand but reading the books really brings the characters to life. The only bad point is there was no real struggle before Horus turned bad. I think it could have been beefed up a bit (you know having Horus struggle with the powers in the warp before they took hold of him). It made the whole thing less sad and more just base storyline.

Apart from that what I have read so far is pretty gripping. Is it worth continuing the series? And are there any other 40k books worth reading?

Read the rest, all the ones ive read are good, i would recommend Legion, a realy good ending to that one, and Mechanicum, so epic ending.

Yeah, read them all.

Generall, most are reckoned to be quite good. Legion is generally agreed to be the best, probably followed closely by Mechanicum and Fulgrim.

On the other hand, Battle for the Abyss is probably the worst (I think everyone agrees on that), and doesn't really link in with any of the others. You could easily skip that one.

The two Dark Angel ones divide people. Personally, I think Descent of Angels is really good, and the recent Fallen Angels is one of the worst written 40k books I've ever read. However, a lot of people dislike Descent of Angels, and a few people on here actually enjoyed Fallen Angels, so I guess it's up to you!

agreed. One minute he's a good guy. One acid trip later and he's the epitimy of all evil. Yes, that was badly done.

Mechanicum is still the best one closely followed by Flight of The Eisenstein

Thanks again guys. A friend of mine has a few of the books so I will try to borrow some from him. If not then I guess I will have to allocate some 40k cash to books instead of models. Ah well.

And thanks for the right order ArbitorIan, I'm a bit of a stickler for that kind of thing.

I thought Mechanicum was a bit hard to follow at best and silly at worst. The titan battles side was very well done but Dalia Cythera and company were terrible characters. I really enjoyed "Galaxy in Flames" and "Flight of the Eisenstein." Even so, they're all worth reading if you love 40k.

It's hard to pick a favourite, as I've enjoyed almost all of them, except for Battle for the Abyss, that one was a real snore fest.

Horus Rising was my personal favorite.

Mechanicum is the only one I've read.

As for the rest of the Heresy ... I read Paradise lost many years ago, and since enough of it (Heresy) is 'homaged' from it, and none of the fallen primarchs appeal to me (so much hubris, it's not really a surprise they fell).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
