Hi! I got back from a great game of apocolypse where I was side by side with Necrons. I've never played -against- them with my Tyranids before and as I watched the game progress, I became less and less sure how Nids stack up against a Monolith army.

What tactics seem to work best? Target Monoliths? Avoid the Monoliths? Target C'tan? Avoid C'tan? Go find a planet that's less crunchy?

'fexes seem to be the only really good unit for cracking 'liths and even that seems dodgy as the fex is slow and the 'liths can come in "out of the way".

Thanks in advance!!!!

Well inflitrating genestealers can rend and take out a monolith, and tbh if i was facing c'tan with nids, i would try for a phase out.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

If you were to look at the statline of necrons, you'd see that they're horrendous in close combat; in comparison to you....who is absolutely brutal in close combat.

Against a necron army, I think you should avoid the monolith. AV14 all around, living armor, and it doesn't count towards the phase out. Those templates are best served taking down destroyers and scarabs, while your genestealers should be tearing up warriors in close combat...multi-assaulting multiple units if possible to *REALLY* tear some stuff up in close combat.

So really focus on the fade out. That makes some sense because even my shooty li'l gaunts can fight those. So really it goes back to the simple math of "Kill things you can kill".

How does speed bumping work against Necrons? You know, where you throw a thin disposable line in front of your more valuable troops until combat ensues? I would imagine that is still a decent tactic?

I do appreciate your thoughts!

Genestealers cannot take out a Monolith, the max Genestealers can do is 13 unless equipped with Toxin Sacs, and even so Living Armor probably negates the D3 extra from rending.

The best way is to get into close combat quickly, and try for sweeping advances, as it prevents We'll Be Back.

I was wondering on that with the Stealers. Same with the 'fex, right? It doesn't get the extra D6 for monstrous?

only 1D6 plus Stength for penetrating a monolith (except for ordnance's 2d6 pick highest)

Hint: Don't go for the monolith

Against monoliths I would make them a small priority. Phase out is far more important. Against a C'tan though we have one of the best weapons for dealing with them, and it fits in perfectly in an anti MEQ list...devourers. Twin linked on tyrants and fexes creams it.

Target models that can die, like warriors. These are the weak link in a necron army now. Ignore the big stuff and go for phase out.
