So thats just one 'Tommy' left in the world now. Nothing but the utmost respect for this guy. Not only was he a man Britain could be proud of, but he had a seriously good innings! World War One was such a long time ago, I find it slightly surreal to think there are still men who fought kicking today.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

The crazy thing for me is that death almost seems unfair for these guys. They gave so much, and suffered so horrendously essentially over nothing, and made it out alive. Somehow I feel they should get to live forever as their reward.

Daft I know, but hey!

What a guy. I can only imagine the horrors of fighting in WW1. He deserved more recognition. Still, 113 years old is quite a milestone for someone who's lived in such harsh times. I imagine the stress would have had a profound effect on a lot of other people.

Balls of steel, man. Balls of steel.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Atleast he had a long, hopefully happy life, unlike those in the trenches, gassed to death, ripped apart by barbed wire or ripped apart by artillery/ heavy machine gun.

RIP

Can you imagine the changes he saw take place in his lifetime? It boggles the mind. In the news here when they reported it he was quoted as saying that the secret to his longetevity was "cigarettes, whiskey, and wild, wild women".

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
