Chaos Strike Force at GT 2009

Daemon Prince w/ wings, lash of submission, MoS – 155

Daemon Prince w/ wings, lash of submission, MoS – 155

10 Terminators w/ reaper autocannon (x2), power fist (x2), IoGC – 380

Plague Marine squad: 7 Marines w/ flamer, icon (x2) Rhino - 211

Plague Marine squad: 7 Marines w/ plasma gun (x2) Rhino w/ hkml - 241

Plague Marine squad: 7 Marines w/ melta (x2) Rhino w/ hkml - 231

2 Obliterators – 150

3 Obliterators – 225

Total: 1748 pts. Models: 38+3. KP: 11.

First Game: Three mission markers, spearhead.

Opponent: Carsten with Space Marines: Chaplain 4 Assault Termies w/ TH/SS Landraider Lysander 5 Termies w/ cyclone Dreadnought 2x 10 Marines in Rhino 2x Landspeeder Predator w/ autocannon, heavy bolter

There was one marker in each deployment zone and one in the centre. My army slowly moved towards the centre. I held the marker in my zone while the centre was contested by his immobilized Landraider. The DPs managed to lash the Tactical from the marker in his zone so that the game ended with a win, 1:0. Nice game.

Second Game: Two mission markers, pitched battle.

Opponent played mech Eldar: Eldrad Avatar 2x 6 Fire Dragons in Serpents 2x 5 Dire Avengers in Serpents w/ shuricannons 5 Dire Avengers Falcon 2x Fire Prism

We placed our markers at opposite ends. My task was to hold my marker. This guy played very aggressively annihilating my Obliterators with Prisms and Fire Dragons early in the game, and hold my objective with the Dire Avengers incl. Eldrad in the Falcon. But it went bad for him as I wiped them out. Ramming with the Fire Prisms against my Rhinos also went wrong so that he couldn't contest my objective. The game ended with a draw, 1:1.

Third Game: Kill points, dawn of war.

Opponent Max (2nd at GT Final 2008) played Eldar: Eldrad 10 Warlocks Avatar Fire Dragons with Serpent Dire Avengers with Serpent Guardian Defenders Pathfinders 2x 3 Jetbikes w/ shuricannon Wraithlord 2x Fire Prism

The Seer Council embarked into the Serpent and headed towards my front ranks supported by the Avatar, while Prisms, Wraithlord, Pathfinders, and Jetbikes gave cover fire. I took down one Prism early in the game. The Seer Council reached my front ranks charging and popping two Rhinos. At the end they got killed with the Avatar was still in cc vs. my army. I lost all 3 Rhinos and one DP, while he lost Prism, Eldrad, Warlocks, Guardian Defenders, Serpent. So I won 5:4. Nice game.

Fourth Game: Five mission markers, pitched battle.

Opponent played Nidzilla: Hive Tyrant w/ 2 Guards Hive Tyrant w/ 2 Guards 2x Gaunts 3x Genestealers 3 Zoantrophes 2x DakkaFex 2x HeavyFex

The wall of MCs walked through the center towards my lines awaiting also the outflanking Genestealers. It was a difficult game and ended with a loss of 1:2. Nice game though.

Fifth Game: Kill points, spear head.

Opponent was Toby (standard opponent at GT) playing 2/9 Chaos: 2 winged Lash Princes 9 Obliterators Landraider 2x 3 Terminators w/ combi-meltas 5 Marines 2x 5 Marines w/ Rhino

Double lash vs double lash. I killed his two DPs with my DPs but then my DPs got killed by rapidly firing plasma guns so that his Obliterators won him the game: 4:7 kill points.

I'll post some pics for best painted armies later.

Nice report.

Say, why have two icons in one unit? Why not brake it up?

Well, there are two icons, one carried by the Termies and the other by Plague Marines.

He's actually probably talking about your typo here:

I am sure it probably meant to say flamer (x2), icon

..

Good to see these results, since I run similiar list.

Right, two flamers, not two icons.

The list is actually rather good. It can deal with tougher armies and with hordes.
I'd take a similar or even the same army if the event would take place next time.

Why not run 2-5 man squads of termies?
Wouldn't that give you a little more flexablity? Or are you just looking for a tarpit unit?
Overall, I do like the list. Sounds like you had a good day of gaming.

thanks,
Rick

Well, the first day went very well, with 2-1-0.
The draw in the game with 2 mission objective was unavoidable.
The 2nd day started with the game vs Nids. It was very close to a draw, while I don't want to talk about the game vs the Chaos 2/9 list.

kill points mission versus the 2/9 Chaos, I think is what hurt most given his troops seem really fragile. I wonder how he did overall... I really like the 2/9 part, but something about the 3 units of 5 CSM seems like it could fall apart in a objective game.

Well, the 2/9 list is too specialized.
I know this guy lost vs Marines but I didn't have time to talk to the Marine player that I know very well.
