I'm starting an ork army and right now I'm just playing around with the codex trying to think up cool lists and whatnot and I was comparing battlewagons and lootedwagons. Battle wagons have much more options and transport capacity but the looted wagons are much much cheaper. another positive I see for looted wagons is they aren't as intimidating as looted wagons. looted wagons don't have the same sort of OMIGODKILLITNOW factor that battlewagons do. They don't attract as much fire. And because looted wagons are cheaper you can take more of them. I thinking of not taking any battle wagons and running three looted wagons, one shooty wagon w/all the guns, and two more basic ones to cart boys around. Plus looted wagons are a lot more fun to play (I think that the don't press dat rule is funny) and have a lot of awesome opportunities for modelling and conversions.

What do you think?

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Out of everything in the Ork army, the two things that top the list of useless are Flash Gits and Looted Wagons.

it does cost less points, but there's a few problems:

-For the same points, you could get a trukk.

-If you put guns on your Looted wagon, you draw a BIG sign on it that says, "KILL THIS CHEAP PIECE OF JUNK." It gets expensive quickly, and 11AV isn't much better than 10.

-If you're planning on using it as a troop carrier, its not a fast vehicle, so the best you'll do is 13". Being armored like a trukk and being a heavy support choice....you're asking for trouble.

-If you're taking vehicles, then it hopefully means that you're playing mechanized assault. If you're playing mechanized assault, it hopefully means that you're smart enough to include a KFF. And hopefully, you have a couple of units that are absolutely terrifying if they get into close combat. Having a Battlewagon (100 points with red paint and a big shoota) rolling up the field with your fearsome unit inside, getting 4+ cover saves and boasting AV14 up front is a pretty surefire way to make sure that it survives through any fusillade of fire. Lets presume someone has a STR10 weapon, firing at your battlewagon.

They have a 50% chance to hit you in the first place. Glance on a 4, so a 50% chance of glancing or penetrating your tank. You have a 50% chance of rolling a cover save. And if all those fail, they have a 50% chance of doing anything meaningful to your tank. That's a 6.25% chance of wrecking your tank.

And after all that....your Mek has Mek tools, and has a 50% chance to repair any weapon destroyed or immobilized results.

If you're looking for fun and cool then take looted wagons
If you're being competitive, then avoid them like the plague

They are underestimated, even with the boomgun, I often take out a good squad or vehicle before someone realizes how dangerous they can be

Yeah, they're fabulous modelling opportunities, but in a game I'd prefer either a trukk or a battlewagon.

I think taking one Looted Wagon and filling it with something like Tank Hunters is worth Math-Hammering...

A Battle-Wagon filled with 20 boyz led by a Nob with a PK and a Bosspole cost around 260 points

I dislike the Idea of fitting something that fragile with an extra 70 points, I would much rather make it a fire-magnet and use some underestimated units...

A Looted Wagon filled with 12 Tank Hunters after it is Fitted with Goblin Riggers, two Big Shootas for weapon destroyed and a red Paint job is around 235 points...

All in all if they bothered shooting at the Wagon With S5+ all the better, They will have to deal with the KFF and the Looted wagon can fix the immobilized on a 4+, has two extra weapons to break... In addition, (correct me if I am wrong) shaken and Stun are meaningless because the Tankbustas are firing their weapons... On a glancing hit you only need to worry about wrecked, which only comes around 8.33% of the time when you factor in the KFF, on a Penetrate you have a 25% of losing the wagon, 33% if they used an AP 1 weapon again this only happens within the KFF... outside of the KFF, well things get quite morbid as you see a 16.66% chance of wreck on a glance and a 50% chance of a dead wagon if the opponent is not using an AP 1 weapon... AP 1 weapons produce a 66% kill rate...

If the Tank blew up, you still have the Tankbustas to move and fire with (well 8-9 of them on average if it Blew up). The way I see it, the Looted Wagon is an invitation to waste precious shots on, This way your Trukks filled with Trukk boyz can go on their merry way...

I have to admit, I miss the old Infantry battles of 4E compared to this 5E wonderland of APCs/IFVs everywhere. It's like we jumped from WWI to WWII.
