The owner of a gaming store near where I live was telling me about Warmachine once, and showed me the cards that have the rules for units and I thought "what a great idea! i'd never forget to shoot/run/assault/whatever with a unit again!

So I was thinking of making Cards like that for my armies' units. I'm thinking putting basic info (statlines, general special rules, maybe a picture) on one side and putting assault and shooting information on the other side. That way I haver all the information at my fingertips and a visual reminder of what i have left to do on a given phase.

Maybe I should have a card that has the Strength vs Toughness table on one side and the CC to hit table on the other.

Does anyone else have any ideas to add to this/ Comments/suggestions to improve it?

I've seen something similar already, for 40k. Can't remember where--Advanced Tau Tactica maybe?

Sounds like it would be convenient and neat. Reminds me of the 2nd Ed cards. I wouldn't worry about the Str/T tables as that 'should' be known by most players. Special rules and extra stuff is always nice to have at hand. Someday when I start playing Rhinos again I'll need something to remind me to roll for the Repair.

a friend of mine eschewed army builder and preferred to make his army list via index cards. he didn't change the make up of his units much (except his HQ) so his army list was a bunch of cards.

Wow lots of replies fast. I guess I'll get started. I'll make one for Captain Shrike to start and post it here when it's done.

Edit:

I had another idea: Instead of making a card for every specific unit in my army, why not make a set of cards for the basic unit (No upgrades) and make cards that have the information on the wargear and whatnot so all you have to do to change your army list is swap out the cards.

Here's my rough draft of one... VERY rough draft. It's about the size of a MTG card. (exactly, actually)

GW had something similar in the beginining. There were wargear cards for special weapons and datacards for vehicles. When Dark Milenium was released the spells were on cards with a description and rule. It made playing a lot easier in those days. I don't remember any cards for armies though. This stuff is at my mother's house so I can't check right now. I thought about doing this myself as I play Eldar and it is work having check my aspects and vehicles stats all the time. Why memorize when you can look at a card.

Reminds me too much of 2nd ed. Personally I loathe the things because they clutter up the gaming table and take a bit away from the game visually. That's just me though.

There were templates for 'index cards' in the 3rd ed brb (at the back, near the 'copy for personal use' army roster.) that did this.

I used something like them in 3rd & 4th ed. Since then, though, I've been using AB (although I also carry the codex and a notebook with me if I'm somewhere where my laptop won't work - like no power).

...for a doctor.

(or for a contemporary teen).

I'm sorry. That would've earned me a rap across the knuckles at school, and extra practice at handwriting.

That kind of handwriting is also why several clubs and tournies in my area specifically disallow handwritten lists.

to be fair, i scratched that off in about 3 minutes. If i took the time to make a not-so-rough version it would be purdyful. Then again, I plan on making them on my computer, printing them off and gluing them to cardstock, so my handwriting wont be a factor. Also I dont do much handwriting because I'm studying computer science, therefor no handwritten notes.

I've been known to do this as a quicker method for army building (the cards list the upgrades modelled on the unit so I don't have to work it out each time.)

It works well enough but when you get to 20+ units it starts to get tedious to sort through them and pull out the army that you want.
