Why should i get obliterators instead of Terminators and a Defiler instead of a Dreadnought?

Obliterators are arguably the best units CSMs have, as they are extremely versatile and good in every situation. Defilers are sick models, have a battlecannon with a large blast template, and is a walker like the dreadnought. The dreadnought sucks because it has crazy stupid rules where it will turn and blow your own units up. Terminators are okay, not great.

None of the elite choices for CSM are very good.

Termies were good until they couldn't hold objectives anymore.

Chaos dreads suck cos they have a chaotic special rule!

Chaos Dreads suck for the same reasons Possessed suck - you have no control over their abilities. They are a liability to your army, something you cannot control reliably or use effectively. There are many better choices than a Dread.

If you think Chaos = Random, which it doesn't.

Random is mathmatically calculated, Chaos is even more spontanious than random by definition.

Orks are the army to play with uncontrollable stuff.

HOWEVER, that kind of stuff can be controlled to a certain extent, and is crazy when it goes well.

imagine double-6 on a SAG firing into assault termies with lysander.

Then imagine double-1 when the mek is in your Nobz squad.

If you like both, then collect orks. if you dont, dont use the random troops, like chaos dreads.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

Yeeeaaa...... Ive had the chaos dred go insane on my own shtuff before. Honestly a smart player going against CSM will try and utilize that dred against you. When I played chaos, my brother would try and get scenarios or set up the table to where I HAD to be close to the damn thing. 3 turns of trying to get away from it can be nerve racking. Ive had it tear apart squads before and it sucked. I even made one into a gun dred, that sucks even more when the fire frenzy goes off on your stuff lol
