I'd like to get an ongoing list of 40k tournaments posted here. As the "Rogue Trader" system is long dead, there are no real central repositories of tournaments.

So, post 'em if you know 'em. I'll update the top-level post; with sufficient interest, I'll turn it into an article.

Showcase Comics and The Big GunZ-NE gaming club present:
Prelude to Conflict!

1750pt Warhammer 40k and 2250pt WFB tournaments. 1 day, 3 games.Jan. 9th, 2010 in the new Gaming Bunker at Granite Run Mall, Media PA.

The Conflict GT is nearly upon you! Are you ready for one of the very first events on the next GT circuit? Maybe you need to get a few practice games in the week before! Whether you’re fine tuning your army your army for the upcoming GT, or just want to get in 3 games of 40k or WFB, this is the tournament you should be at.

Prizes: We have several hundred dollars in Forgeworld models that we will be giving out as awards for the two tournaments, along with a few other goodies. Items include the Khorne and Nurgle Demon princes and heralds, Masterclass Modeling books, Warboss on Bike, Plauge Ogryn, Chaplain Dreadnaught, and other assorted cool bitz of resin.
Prizes will be given out for Overall, 2nd overall, Best painted, 2nd Painted, and Best General. And anything else we feel like awarding.)

Entry Fee is 20.00, if paid by Jan. 2nd, 25.00 if paid afterwards, or at the door.
This can be paid by Paypal at ShowcaseComicsandGames@Gmail.com

Army Lists must be emailed by Jan 6th to Mikenjudyc@aol.com or Indiandog@gmail.com . Lists that show up after Jan 6th will be take a -5 penalty to their score. Reservations must be pre-paid, or you take your chances at the door. We have room for 50 people, maximum, for this event, for both game systems.

This Tournament is the first to officially be held in the new Game Bunker that we will be opening up in Jan. of 2010. This is a separate room from the store with 25 permanent tables, and room to expand for GT’s. We’ll be running over two dozen events there next year, from various gaming systems. To celebrate the first event, we’ll have food and snacks during the day, and we’ll be holding ‘Round 4’ down at the Ruby Tuesdays afterwards.

(Looking for more info on Conflict IGT? Head over to http://theconflictgt.com/ for all the information on this two day WFB/40k GT.)

Details: For this tournament we’ll be using points values used at the conflict:
1750 pts for 40k: Lists drawn from current Codices, and the Blood Angels PDF.
2250 pts for WFB: Lists drawn from current army books. Chaos Dwarfs us RH.

Seeding: Pairings for round 1 will be random within 3 categories: hard, normal, easy. Categories are determined by your army composition score. (see below). Pairings for round 2 and 3 will be by battle points, with highest playing the next highest, etc. In the case of ties, the pairings will be randomly determined. An exception is that no two players will play each other twice. There are no grudge matches, or challenges. In the case of an odd number of players, someone will be on hand with a ‘ringer army’.
(We will attempt to not have players from the same group/club/team play each other in round 1. No one likes to travel to a tournament and play the same guy they see each Saturday.)

Scoring will take into account:
Battle points: three games worth 34 points each
Painting: worth 0 to 20 points.
Army Composition: worth 0 to 20 points.
(Note: For our 2 day Grand Tournaments, we will be using a system of 5 games for 20pts each, comp for 20pts, and painting for 20pts. In 3 game tournaments, like this one, we are increasing the battle points per game, to keep the ratio between battle points and soft scores the same, with roughly a 70%/30% ratio.)

Battle Points: Each game will have a scenario. Battle points may be decided by victory points, scenario objectives, or a combination of the two. Scenarios will be posted by Jan 1st, so all players can be familiar with them ahead of time.

Army Composition scoring:
Each army will be given a score that reflects how “good”, “hard”, or “effective” it is. A lower scoring army will generally win more games than a lower scoring army. Scoring will be done by a group of 5 people, all of which currently play on a regular basis, and have tournament and GT experience. No one playing in a tournament will be judging comp for that tournament. Composition will not be based on theme, fluff, or story, only on how competitive your army is in a tournament environment. Bikernobz, Doublelashoblits, or VulcanTHmeltaflamerspam, is usually going to do a bit better usually than Greyknights, non-mech Eldar, or Darkangels
(We understand that this is a “subjective” system. There will not be a checklist put up for it. If you have questions about it, please talk to the Mike Clark, Mikenjudcy@aol.com, ahead of time.)

Painting will be scored by 2-3 people using a checklist. No one playing in a tournament can judge painting for that tournament. A summary of the checklist is below.:

Less then 100% of the Army is painted/flocked: 0 points. It is expected that all armies are painted and flocked. Showing up with partially painted army will definitely get you a 0 in painting, but might also bar you from playing in the tournament.

-Detailed Basing : 1 point. (Multiple dry brushes, as well as static grass/water effects/debris)

-Army Coherency*: 0-3 points.
(The army matches in one overall scheme, same unit markings, similar basing, theme, etc.)

-Highlights: 0-2 points. (Highlighting on most of the army)

-Good Use of Washes and Inks, or blending: 0-2 points. (Controlled use of Washes and Inks, not splashed all over)

-Extreme Detail: 0-3 points. (Eyes painted, banners, flags, free handwork.)

-Minor Conversions: 0-:2 points. (Kit swaps, different poses, some sculpting)

-Major Conversions**: 0-3 points. (Full or major sculpts, major greenstuffs work, major kit swaps)

-Neatness:1 point. (Not messy, clean-cut, overall neat)

-Modeling Skill:1 point. (No mold lines, differently posed miniatures, built correctly)

-Display Board: 0-2 points. (A board that match’s your army’s bases, not just a cookie tray

* = If you are playing an army that has different color squads in the fluff/storyline, then you get this point
** = If the player has a mostly converted army, the player receives points for both minor and major conversions

This Tournament is the first to officially be held in the new Game Bunker that we will be opening up in Jan. of 2010. To celebrate, we’ll have food and snacks during the day, and we’ll be holding ‘Round 4’ down at the Ruby Tuesdays afterwards.
