I also hear Mortal Kombat and the Resident Evil series did quite well at the box office.

that may be true... but then again MOST games dont have a fan base of 12 million++ who PAY 15$ a month to play

methinks most of them will go see the movie..

furthermore, this can only increase the WoW addicts numbers which is more profitable for them, AND they will more likely then not make a profit on the movie.

this is a win - win situtaion for blizzard.

Movies of games should stick to the canon at least vaguely. World of Warcraft is not set in a particular part of the storyline, just sometime after Warcraft III, which was far better and has less douchebags playing online.

to hell with the fluff.... its a fantasy movie and ill watch it as such.
if it lines up with the storyline then yay, if not then oh well, i just got to watch what will probably be a cool fantasy movie...
i just hope its not along the lines of those craptacular 7-11 commercials...lol

2) that it will make money
3) there will be some b.s. cross-promotional junk with the computer game (redeem ticket for free in-game item!!)

The rumour has Sam Raimi directing this one. Maybe it won't totally suck which would be pretty spectacular for a video game movie.

well... as long as they avoid a 2 hour showing of a lvl 80 camping the body of a lvl 30 you just took his first step into stranglethornevale then they should be ok....

but even if that was the case, all the arsehole popullation of WoW would pay to see it.... then they would go home and hop on the good old 80 rogue start a fire and break out the marshmellows.

Blizzard has a way of only releasing really good stuff (yes, i'm calling WoW really good. if you have 12 million + people paying 15 bucks a month for it, it counts as good no matter what you think), So i doubt they will let a warcraft movie be released if it's crap.

Just because it does well at the box office doesn't mean it is a good movie.

Titanic was HUGE in theaters, but if I have to try to fit through even half of that movie I want to KILL EVERYONE.

I thought ET was a decent movie.

Meanwhile, the WoW is just branding, nothing more nothing less. Being WoW means it'll be generic fantasy, and not really much else. This film will be good or bad depending entirely on whether or not Sam Raimi manages to score another hit (and his record is strong).
