I'm looking for a good white paint to paint up some swissters of battle power armor. It seems like GW white paint is clumpy even after using a proper thinner.

Does anyone out there feel like sharing some tips on painting white?

That being said, I'll still give you a 0 if you bring more than 5 eldar skimmers. Don't be that guy.

Water down the GW stuff and paint in many thin layers. If you use one or two coats of white Krylon spray paint, that would be the best base, I would say.

I just had one heck of a time painting the noses of my Hellfury missiles for the Valkyrie. I went with white and did at least a half-dozen coats so I could get a really nice smooth finish.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

I use a watered down coat of Astronomican Grey as a base before I start layering white. Cuts out a couple coats.

Starting with a white primer is the easiest way. You need multiple thin coats to achieve a smooth white regardless of brand. I do find that VGC white seems to cover better and has a higher pigment load though I haven't used it in ages. If you want to stick to gaming paints VGC will sort you out nicely.

My personal favorite is titanium white artist acrylic. If you choose to go for this I'll let you know right now you have to thin it much more than GW paint which is pre-thinned. Personally I like its qualities better and I prefer to start with a thicker paint that has the highest pigment load and mixing characteristics but not everyone wants to deal with the added amount of work that it takes.

I used Vallejo white paint and it worked great for my SoBs. You can see pics in my profile gallery. But as with all paints you will need to water the paint down.

If you are willing to go outside traditional hobby paints I'd suggest airbrush paints......super thin but will flow unbelievable and if you get Opaque white (stay away from semi-opaque or transparent for obvious reasons). I have Createx Wicked White.

Sad thing is is that smallest amount you can purchase is 16oz......16oz would paint about 8 armies at 2k each.

White is hard to paint unless you have a white primer or use an airbrush (or both, still easiest over white primer airbrushed).

Stripping that black off and priming them white will help especially if you are going to paint them white. Don't just prime over them you will loose a lot of detail doing that.

When painting white you need to water it down a lot and give it time to dry in between layers. Also giving it an initial wash of an accent color of a blue grey also helps then when that is dry just putting some black wash in the creases and crevices to define the features. Also not painting white in the creases helps keep the separation of details.

Remember that painting white take a lot longer than some other colors so try not to rush it. Just take your time, it's not a race.
