Alright so I flew in friday around 3:30, and after I got settled in and got some lunch I made my way down to the tournament room. I saw 2 of my friends from Jersey who are both coincidentally named Rich one of them is frgsnwntr here on dakka. So I got a nice little demo game in BFG and then went and got dinner with some guys at hooters. After that Rich, Rich and I talked a little and then I went up and called it a night.

But enough about my life. Here's the list i'm bringing.

Ok so round one starts up with me against daemons woo hoo!

Mission
primary table quarters
secondary control an objective you place in your own table quarter
tertiary kill points
deployment spearhead

So his list
Skarbrand

Bloodthirster

2 units of 16 bloodletters- icons

2 units of 8 bloodletters

2 daemon princes- khorne wings iron hide

I win the roll for first and let him deploy.

I deploy my wall of TMC's and gaunt screen my army to prevent a charge and i declared that 1 squad of stealers was going to outflank, then I wait.

His Turn 1
in comes a prince bloodthirster and 16 letters the prince drops too close the thirster way too far and the letters just right.

My Turn 1
move a little shoot the prince and kill all but 4 bloodletters.

His turn 2
In comes another prince and 8 bloodletters who hide in the back. The bloodthirster moves up. The 4 letters charge my gaunt screen and kill a squad.

My Turn 2
Move a little. Stealers come in and kill the squad of 8 letters. prince goes down letters in my front lines die and thirster goes down to 2 wounds.

His Turn 3
Everything else is in! the latters all come in the backfield and skarbrand comes in right in front of my army. The thirster charges a heavy fex and 1 turns it.

My Turn 3
I kill skarbrand and thirster with shooting, stealers kill the new squad of 8 bloodletters. And the gaunts go for quarters. The 1 squad of gaunt WON and capture my objective.

His Turn 4
uhh...

My Turn 4
I was nice since I was already maxing out i'd let him keep his objective so the game pretty much ended.

So I got Primary Secondary Tertiary and 1 bonus point 19/20 not a bad start. While I let my opponent get 7 as opposed to 0.

Off to table 1! Next round space marines.

I didnt get to see all of your games but a very good run and most impressive use of Nidzilla.

Thanks Hod, from what I remember the games that you missed were the ones that were a one sided masacre like that one. Also, I was fairly surprised by the meta game down there with not too many mech armies and the surplkus of daemons.

Round 2
Opponent Space Marines

His list
Sicarius

Cassius

10 sternguard on foot

8 sternguard in rhino assortment of combi weps

2 units of 5 scouts in land speedere storms

10 sniper scouts

10 marines in a rhino

3 attack bikes- heavy bolters

Mission
Primary- We each had 3 objectives we could place in our deployment zones i placed mine 4 inches apart from each other in the back of mine. He placed his 3 evenly dispersed through his deployment zone about half way in.
Secondary- Scoring units in the enemys deployment zone
Tertiary- kill points

I deploy in a wall, he deploys spread out through his deployment zone with the rhinos on 1 flank. My stealers are all in reserve and his scouts in speeders are in reserve. I win the roll to go first and take it.

My Turn 1
Move up with the fex's 1 gaunt squad stays back to hold my objectives. I barbed stranglered the bikes dead and bounced off the rhinos.

His Turn 1
Rhinos charge up the flank, sternguard and sniper scouts kill 1 hevy fex.

My Turn 2
Both Stealers in on the side with the rhinos. Sternguard on foot are shot to bits shot at the rhino continue to bounce off. 1 dakkafex shootss up the scouts then charges and makes them run away. The stealers immobilize 1 rhino and blow up the other.

His Turn 2
His rhino repairs itself and continues the plan to flank my army. The sterguard sicarius and cassius get out and kill 1 squad of stealers. 1 squad of scouts comes in and tries to shoot my gaunts on the objective but cant get through my 2+ cover save.

My Turn 3
Stealers charge sternguard after a tyrnat and dakkafex shoot them up and kill all but sicarius. 1 heavy fex ran back and blew open the speeder (Yay open topped)! My second tyrant madee its way back to my deployment zone to make my gaunts able to capture myy objective. And my 2 squads of gaunts moving up congo lined to stay in synapse and get 1 of his objectives aswell as getting me the secondary.

His Turn 3
Speeder comes in and rhino moves to captur my 3 objectives.

My Turn 4
heavy fex blows up th new speeder, and the other heavy fex blows up the rhino in assualt. Tyrant joins the combat and makes short work of sicaius.

His Turn 4
Scouts and marines get out and go for it. Marines shoot and charge the haevy fex and with the help of me rolling 3 one's kill it scouts shoot the gaunts (who i had to move out of cover so they wouldnt get charged by marines) got shot by scouts (now heres the genius of my plan)! I did NOT go to ground and lost 4 gaunts. My gaunts were lined up in a congo line with three back claiming the objective. I took out the one's in synapse, failed my leadership and ran off thetable .

My Turn 4
Stealers move into his deployment zone and grab an objective and the secondary. Tyrant no longer needs to worry about babysitting the gaunts in his deployment zone so he works his way back and shoots and charges the marines killing all but 3. The gaunts WON and claim all three of my objectives and the dakkafex that killed the sniper scouts runs back and kills 4 regular scouts, and the gaunts finish the last one off.

His Turn 4
He has 3 marines in combat with my tyrant who all die and that's that.

I maxed out again.
So looks like i'm in a 3 way tie for first.
Next round daemons.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Game 3
Opponent daemons
Mission
Primary- kill the enemy's highest point hq
secondary- keep yours alive
tertiary- kill points

His list
Fateweaver

2 units of 5 crushers wound allocation crap

1 unit of 4 crushers wound allocation crap

4 units of 5 plaugebearers

3 soul grinders- phlegm tongue

So I win the roll for first and give it to him. I deploy nothing and walk on turn 1 since it's dawn of war.

His Turn 1
3 grinders come in and create a wall on 1 side and the crushers come in the middle. The crushers run making it look like hes going to drop fateweaver behind the griinders but he actually left the icons on the other side since he congo lined his units. That's soomething I didn't catch until it was too late.

My Turn 1
Walk on and run, I walked onto the side with all the grinders.

His Turn 2
Fateweaver uses the icon and comes on the opposite side, then runs behind a building and hides all game. His crushers congo line so they re roll saves and are far forward. The grinder knock off a guard and a half, and put 1 wound on the tyrant.

My turn 2
I move up and shoot up the grinders.

His turn 3
his plaugebearers that came stood in front of my gaunt wall to keep me from moving. and he knocked off the last tyrant guard with shooting.

My turn 3
Carnifex charges soul grinder and eats it, 1 squad of gaunts charge a soul grinder and ties it up, and my army shoots away the squad of 4 crushers, the stealers chrged the plaugebearers and kill a squad. The gaunts also charge a squad and tie it up.

His turn 4
His last squad of plaugebearers get in the way of my carnifex charge on a grinder and he puts 1 more wound on the tyrant.

My Turn 4
I shoot away the squad of plaugebearers thats in the way and my fex eats it. Another fex charges the grinder that was being tied up and eats it to.

His Turn 5
plaugebearer combats, he's playing for the draw since he cant kill my tyrant without losing fateweaver.

My turn 5
nothing

We call it there since no one is goingto make a move.

I got the secondary and tertiary and gets the secondary. That actually put me in a wonderful spot for sunday.

Next Round Eldar!

Round 4
Opponent Eldar
Mission
Primary- kill the enemy's elites
Secondary- kill the enemy's fast this defaulted to hq since there was none
Tertiary- table quarters

His List
Farseer- doom fortune some other stuff

10 firedragons- wave serpant

10 harlequins

10 wraithguard counted as troops

2 units of 3 bikes with warlocks

10 dire avenger on foot

fire prism

3 war walkers scatter lasers

Deployment- spearhead
i win the roll and i have to take it because theres a gian LOS blocking piece of terrain that could cost me the game if i don't prevent him from hiding behind it. My stealers out flank. And he deploys everything on his short table edge.

My Turn 1
Move and run! 1 heavy fex takes a pot shot at the serpant and guess what it explodes! Thats a great start!

His Turn 1
He moves his bikes and his prism and stuff so that i cant outflank my stealers on his side damn...

My Turn 2
Both squads in on the other side phew... I move up and take pot shots killing a guy here and there.

His Turn 2
stay back and shoot put 4 wounds on a fex

My turn 3
I move into range and shoot just about everthing dead except 1 squad of bikes te prism and wraithguard

His Turn 3
bikes go for it and bring a fex to 1 wound after shooting and charging wraithguard make quick work of a fex

My Turn 4
well since his wraithguard shot that means im in range so CHARGE and 1 fex joins the bike combat. Tyranrt casted catalyst on the wounded fex so it got to strike even though it was killed and with the 2 fex's combied killed the bikes.

His Turn 4
move the prism his 1 war walker and his 1 dire avenger (yes thats all he had left) and take pot shots. He lost the wraitguard and farseer in combat.

My turn 5
kill the warwalker and dire avenger.

His turn 5
Prism boosts

My turn 6
snag table quarters make sure all gaunts were in synapse...

His
Turn 6
Boost

I maxed out again, so let's review going into sunday i was tied for 5th, coming out of round 4 with a masacre i move up to 4th? Whatever.

At this point i'm scared to death as marc parker and his sisters and some other guy's mech eldar are both on the top tabes with me and since my list just cant deal with either of those armies, i was really hoping to play the other space marine player who was in top 4.

Well guess what? Round 5 Space Marines!

Round 5
Opponent Space Marines
Mission
Primary- kill points
Secondary- kill the enemy heavy support since he didnt hanve any this became hq
Tertiary-table quarters

His List
Librarian- gate null zone

10 termies- 2 cyclones

dread- TL AC

inquisitor- 2 mystics

2 units of 10 marines- melta gun las cannon fist

10 marines- drop pod melta multi melta fist

5 scouts

3 units of 1 speeder typhoon missles heavy flamers

Deployment
He wins the roll and goes first he deploys his scouts and inquisitor inside his tactical rhinos and he has the tacticals on foot hold the center (mistake 1). The termies are 1 flank with the scouts and the dread speeders and inquistior on the other. I deploy in a variation to my usual wall. I left 1 squad of gaunts in reserve and set up the gaunt wall. I had my 33 dakka fex's hide behind the tyrants and heavy fex's since he had 10 S8 AP 3 shots a turn. 1 squad of stealers was put in reserve.

His Turn 1
Termies move up (mistake 2). Drop pod came in off to the side with the termies. Then he shoots putting an elite fex down to 1 wound and putting 2 wounds on a heavy fex.

My Turn 1
Move up, pop 1 speeder and shake another. Kill 4 termies.

His Turn 2
termies move back (but it wont save him now). He shoots killiing the elite fex the heavy fex, the scout rhino also moves up a bit.

My Turn 2
Shoot 1 tactical down to 3 marines, immobilize and shake a speeder. Stealers came in and ate the ddrop pod. Shoot up 2 more termies.

His Turn 3
termies keep moving back, librarian hops into the scout rhino. The rhino moves up (mistake 3) hes withen 8" of 2 fex's and a tyrant. He shoots and bringsa heavy fex to 1 wound. The marines from the pod kill the stealers.

My Turn 3
Stealers and 1 heavy fex charge the 10 man tactical. Tyrant shoots the 3 man dead. Dakkafex goes for termies again and puts 1 more down. Tyrant heavy fex and elite fex charge the rhino. I've block all the access points and I explode it... DAMN.

His Turn 3
Librarian uses gate to get the hell out of there and in the backfield behind a rock where a squad of gaunts was hiding. He kills a dakkafex.

My Turn 3
Tyrant kills the immobilized speeder. and fex weapon destroys the other. elite fex brings the termies down to 1 model. Tyrant goes for the marines that came out of the pod and kills 4.

His Turn 4
His librarian and scouts kill 1 gaunt squad he doesnt kill anything with his 1 cyclone... and marines run away from the tyrant. BUT in combat the gaunts wounded the libraian! I <3 catalyst!

My Turn 4
Tyrant that was chasing the marines swings around a rock and get a shot at the scouts and kills all of them but not the librarian. Fex kills the weapon destroyed speeder. Fex kills the last termie.

His Turn 5
Librarian hides up against the rock. The 6 marines charge the tyran to tie it up and thanks to me getting no hits they do. Dread tries to fight my other tyrant and wounds a guard. I do nothing...

My Turn 5
gaunts try to get around the rock to the librarian but fail. tyrant kills all but 2 marines and dread does 1 more wound hich i take on the tyrant and again i do nothing...

His Turn 6
combat his marines dont die... :(. And again NOTHING to his dread. His dread wounds again and again it goes on they tyrant.

My Turn 6
gaunts get around the rock and shoot! Guess what! DEAD LIBRARIAN GAUNTS ARE MY HERO! now tyrant immobilizes and weapon destroys the dread. And tyrant finishes off the last marine in combat.

So, I max out again which puts me in a tie for first wit marc parker. He beats me out because, of my awful comp score. So I end up winning 2nd overall. Not bad for a 16 year old punk kid. All in all it was a fun tournament.

Starting the scouts and Inq in the rhino's was illegal as only units that a dedicated transport is bought for can start the game inside of the transport.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I pointed out in another thread that your comp score cost you the tournament.

Comp scores for Tyranid players:
Nick Nanavati 4
Gavin Conn 3
Jake Harai 4

The next 2 lowest were both demon players at 5, and no one else got below a 6

Tyranids are a mid level army, and should not have been given such low comp scores. The demon army you faced in round #3 was much worse than your list.

I like comp, but whenever it gets implemented it is pure failure. When you have a judge’s bias as shown here, or when you have a standardized sheet that penalizes some armies unfairly and let other brutal builds get by without a penalty it is a failure.

I think the guys that run the Necro are really fantasy players that do not know much about 40k which makes since when you look at the comp scores for the fantasy side compared to the 40k side. The fantasy comp scores are all over the map. It looks like they really do not know much about 40k and someone told them that Godzilla ‘Nids were cheesy.

Not to uncommon unfortunately. Broadside saw all 3 tyrannid players in the bottom 8 guys comp wise at the start of the tournament. People seem to have a particular hate on for Tyrannids. Weird that Eldrad lists don't wind up farther down though.

Thanks guys.

I'll agree that comp should not be implemented in tournaments as an all around template, I think it should be used to some extent. To what degree I have not decided, but I think it should be in there. I think that the comp score there was based on MC's. All nid lists had the worst scores, all nid lists were nidzilla. My friend ran demonzilla 5 MC's and gtot a 5. IMO while the round 3 guy had a much nastier list but wih 1 TMC and I believe got a 7.

As much as I despise the concept of Nidzilla I think you got robbed.

Tourneys should reflect the game as it is approved and released by GW.

IF GW gives the go ahead to release a codex and sell it to the masses then whatever lists can be legally created with that codex should be fair game. IF the codex allows it and it is legal comp. then why is it not good enough for a tourney game?

Comp scoring needs to go for this reason. Some guy(s) on a power trip or with some other motivation shouldnt be able to tank people and play god like they did in this case.

Let people play and and let the games decide the winner...

You haven't truely been robbed until you get to take the trophy for first at a GT home for 2 weeks, then get a phone call saying saying "uhhh yeah, the TO's screwed up, your list was too hard, and now that we've applied a penalty that you are the only one in all of australasia to get, you've actually finished 14th. Gonna need you to bring that trophy back in... ta!"
With nidzilla as well ;D!

Given the changes to nids in 5th, I think you were quite hard done by :( Hard luck mate!

Well, no, I'm in the UK.

I'm shocked at that - maybe it was previously the policy. I wouldn't be too sure the US GTs are perma-gone though. Here in Northern Ireland there's a good chance of our Fields Of Blood being upgraded to a full GT if attendances are up next year. GW wouldn't be adding new GTs if they were scaling them back. Maybe you'll get yours back!

Each region has a pretty different business model, and losing them has actually been the best thing that could have happened to NZ, its meant greater turn out (this years is almost double to 2 years prior), and increased prize support from GW ironically - I hope we don't get it back!

Anywho, we should probably refrain from derailing Yermoms thread, so to pull it back on topic.....

Cheers for the report Yermom - I like how to the point they are. Mine wind up being waffling mini novels full of unnecessary detail, so I appreciated being able to read through promptly!

Think of it like a handicap, something to keep the playing field level, to encourage variation and a more "balanced list".

Its a fantastic utopian dream, if there was any way to get it truely accurate - it would really not be that bad a thing, so long as everyone was on the same page. Unfortunately, someone's always going to get screwed with something that subjective.

It seems like it encourages bad army building. I mean, nidzilla is really the only way to play nids and have a chance, and its still not really considered that good of list. So if some list thats maybe tier 2 or tier 3 is getting massively knocked for being OP then how crappy were the rest of the lists there?

That was actually I was hoping I wouldn't have to play in the tournament. But, now that i'm actually taking a look at his list i'm pretty sure I could have won so long as the mission wasn't objective based or kill ponts (so basically if i were to fight him in round 3 or 4).

1) The necro organizers don't make any money for running the tourney. They claim that they barely break even, and I believe them.
2) The guy that won best painted army was a fantasticly painted Tau army that was voted on by the attendees
3) If your refering to paint scores that figured into overall, I'm not sure what you heard, but I disagree that it was terrible.
