Looking at building a list for a 2k tournament that is coming up here in a couple weeks. Running into a small problem. How effective would Chimera's be in your opinion at the 2k level with little or no AV14? List I am contemplating is:

2x CCS's 4xMelta's, 3xPlasma's Medic, 2xChimera's, 2xMulti-laser, 2xHHB, 2x Hvy Stubbers, Both w/carapace
PBS, 8x Psykers, Chimera, Stubb
Inquisitor, 2xMystics, 2xHeirophants, Hood
3xVet Squads, 3xGrenidiers, 2xDemolitons, 6xMelta, 3xFlamer, 1x Chimera, Hvy Flamer, HHF, Stubb
1xVet Squad, 3xPlasma, AC, Harker, Chimera, Multi-laser, HHB, Hvy Stubb
2xVendettas
1xValkyrie w/pods

This comes out too 1753. Technically I have enough points for a Demolisher with Plasma Sponsons, or 2 more Chimera's. I could drop a Valkyrie for a Demolisher and a standard LRBT. Either way at a minimum its 5 Chimera's, possibility of up to 7 however how much will the lack of AV14 hurt me?

As long as you spam AV12 I wouldn't worry too much about it, since Shep has done well and he doesn't use any Lemans in his lists. All your opponent's ranged AT weapons that couldn't hurt AV14 would be targetting your Chimeras anyway, so you really just need to account for what would be levied against AV14 along with what normally would target AV 12.

Just make sure you cover all of the things that the tanks would be doing, mainly AP2 weapons. I'd suggest running Demolitions on a lot of Vets to make up for it, dropping Grenediers if necessary. Maybe incorporating some Hydras, Manticores, and BB Medusas in HS to make up for the lack of Anti Tank since your infantry will have to be carrying all the AP 2 weaponry that Demolishers or Executioners would have to, but I wouldn't suspect that it would impact you that heavily. You could also consider squadroning some Valks and picking up a few Devildogs with HF's, since that kit is actually out.

Yea, for the two squads in the Vendetta and Valkyrie. The idea is if I get first turn I might pay the points back by sacrificing one squad to get a turn 1 assault on multiple vehicles. 10 Melta Bombs automatically hitting is pretty nice.

I'd also suggest cutting all the Carapace armor, it'd free up 100 points, and, honestly, the best defense for a Vet squad is it's Chimera or Valkyrie, and when it comes down to it, they still are guardsman, 4+ or 5+ save.

Yeah, that's why I was confused. 60 extra points for 2 squads is crazy. All that carapace is crazy as well. Drop it and get more stuff!

If you don't want to run any Russes and have a russ shaped hole in your list points then I would recommend a Hydra battery. You already have a PBS to assist with those wacky bikers, now just round it off with a vast amount of Dakka At 75pts each Im surprised anyone can say no to hydras.

Recco upgrading to inquisitor lord (drop a hierophant or something) and get yourself a Callidus Assassin. She won my first two ard boyz rounds and (with a little help from the PBS) took down a healthy unit of nob bikers in one round. Mcbrutal. And don't forget Marbo. The callidus and Marbo one 2 punch anywhere on the board causes wicked fear in the enemy. Good doctrine for callidus at: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2007/04/tactica-callidus-assassin.html

I don't know what army you'd be facing, but honestly i'd take at least 1 basilisk. It adds great support for all your troops, and making it possible to easily kill SM tactical squad.
in my opinion, you can live w/out leman russ. i really like the load of chimeras you got going, but i think it might be worth it to cut some upgrades like carapace and add more units/tanks

an IG list without a LRBT? *sniff* thats like christmas with no presents... =(
