I really like you reds on your space wolves. What is the technique you use?

the way i paint my reds are...

1) base coat what youre painting in skull white (you dont always HAVE to do this...but until you can learn how layer paint without getting uneven patches...use skull white)

2) paint over the skull white with blood red...do this in thin layers...usually ill wind up doing 2-3 thin coats of red on large areas...USE LOTS OF WATER...with doing 2-3 thin layers, it helps build the boldness of the color up

3) for highlights...i usually start with blood red + blazing orange...its very subtle...then move slowly out to pure blazing orange...if you want to go any lighter...work in some fiery orange...and then SMALL SMALL amounts of skull white and golden yellow (becareful that the color doesnt go pink or yellow...add small amounts like i said...reds/oranges in GW paints are tricky)

4) use fiery orange or golden yellow on the VERY VERY edges of whatever youre highlighting to give it a sharp, hard edge feeling (like metal...or just bling bling lol heh)

Seriously the only thing I can criticize is not doing anything to the barrels. I prefer them drilled, but at least paint a black circle in the middle so show where the bullets come out.
Other then that, man you REALLY know how to paint your minis

looks great but have to agree with the barrel thing you spend all that time take the second to but a black dot where the hole would be .

I have to say, with the wolves I really like the blacklining you've done! really defines the features of the models and brings a really clean look to them.

consider it stolen for my next (wolves) army.

actually its really dark blue

its also a very old style of painting for GW minis...everything now is super realisitc looking...back in the 1st and 2nd editions of 40k...things were much more "cartoony" looking (as the owner of the local GW store calls it)...im trying to get more into bed with the idea of the "realistic" approach...though its going to take me a while to wrap my brain around it to incorporate into my models

heh...im glad i can be an influence into how you paint...if you would like me to post a step by step tutorial...let me know...ill see what i can do as ive still got a load of space wolf minis to finish up

and to the barrel holes on guns thing...ive never been very good with a hand drill and id perfer not to mess up the barrels of the guns...and the black dot thing just never looks right unless there is some kind of circle drilled into the barrels (ive tried it before...wasnt happy with the results at all)...i may see if i cant find some smaller bits for my dremmel tool and try it that way

Nice work man! Those old school SW models really bring back memories, especially the very static long fangs. I have all of those oldies in my wolf army too!

On a side note I swear I've seen your user name before, Driftstl maybe? or possibly myspace? Either way you slide!

Yep that sounds about right. Knew it sounded familiar! On topic I like the yellow around the facemasks on the SW captain!

thank you =D

i think that leaving the front of the masks the color of the armor is a little boring...helps offset the models a bit more and shows that theyre part of a unit...kind of wish i did the bolt pistol in yellow or red now though...wouldve carried some of the models color onto the opposite

Wow, some nice work there! I love the nice clean and crisp colours and the lining work, I'm even more impressed with the yellow something I'm still trying to master, how did you get the yellow to look so smooth and crisp?

That's some nice work, I dig it. I dig the Leman Russ model - it's always nice to see some old-school minis.

You should upload your photos to the Dakka Gallery too, where people can vote on them and leave more comments.

Very smooth painting and most of these are looking ace. However, you should really consider drilling out the barrels. With a bit of practice youll do fine Im sure
