Scenario: You are cleaning out your room/garage/basement, and you find all those old models that you'd forgot about.

There's the clip together space marine you used to test all your paint schemes on.

There's the Guardsman you converted to be wearing power armour and wielding a brightlance, coz you though it was "pretty cool"

There's the... Wait. What is that thing? Did that used to be a tyranid?

There's that old army which you used to love but is covered in an inch of dust, and you now realise looks like it was painted by an epileptic duck.

Would you... Nay. COULD you bring yourself to banish these models to the bin?

In other words, have you ever thrown out models? I know I have.

What do you want for tea? I want crisps!

Depends.

If it just looks like a 3 year old threw some parts together and spilled glue on them - in the bin, no second thoughts.

If it was an otherwise normal model that could be salvaged - I'd salvage it and use it for something else.

Metal models that are unsalvageable just get melted down.

About to eat your Avatar...

Clean bits are always a nice addition to your bits box. Just throw the decent stuff into some Simple Green (or whatever you use to clean paint) and then chop them up so you can glue them back together later .

Besides you can always just call it chaos IG .

For just pennies a day you can give these neglected models a new home. Please, think of the minis?

I can't bring myself to throw anything away. I've got mangled remnants of Space Marines I painted when I was 12 still in boxes around my house.

No! If you throw away or destroy your models, Jervis will sneak into your house at night and turn you into one of them, then put you in your FLGS display case, where you shall remain, unable to move or communicate for all eternity.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I have tossed some models a while back, mainly old single pose marines.

Other things that are slavageable I keep, or give away. Like the ton of eldar I got rid a while back. Took em up to the local GW and dropped em off in the bits box.

IF you can call 36 jetbikes, 8 vipers, and 4 falcons bitz, plus a half metric ton of foot troops bitz...

Apparently from what I was told it made several kid's day.

So if they are really, really old keep em, if they are semi old and useless toss em, everything else sell em or give em away...

(I picked the Eldar up on ebay, cheap. After sitting in the box for almost five years I figured I may as well get rid of em, buy the time I would have got around to em, new models would have been released )

Yes, I've thrown away models which were damaged or I knew I would never use or be able to give away. No point leaving them to clutter up the place.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I don't ever recall binning miniatures, but I have thrown away other model kits, usually military ones. Some are just crap, they aren't worth the effort of building and converting to bring up to a decent quality especially when there are newer kits without the multitude of errors. All you do is spend a stupid amount of time working on something that when finished still doesn't look as good as the lastest version of the same tank or aircraft built straigh out the box and is available for less than £10.

I have a couple hundred 2 nd ed single pose Orks and grots. I think Im going to start using them in place of foam peanuts for packing materials in trades.

Generally though, Im too much of a bitz-ho to throw anything out. Luckily when I got started my modeling skills were fairly clean so old figs are salvagable and Im continually recycling the favorites into my armies as tehy update over the years.

Hasn't happened to me yet. I don't believe in Jervis. Or the Hel-spawned dimension that he hails from.

I've consigned many an old metal figure to the melting pot of history (well, crucible, actually). Steel legion, orks, eldar musicians and space marines of many descriptors.

I don't think this jervis exists. His rantings in WD are simply the made up epistles by the apostles of the unholy cult of the jabberwock that is GW.

I wouldnt have any problem tossing them, ive done it with a few that have been painted poorly\chopped up. But I would also have a scavange for anything that is salvagable for conversions etc

I have a box where I throw all my models that are more or less garbage. I use them for basing, modeling trophies, and terrain purposes. When a piece gets unusable, in the bin it goes.

Mine are almost never consigned to the dust bin - only those that are chopped or mangled beyond recognition and only plastics at that. I've been saving my metals to do drop casting with so it's reincarnation for them.

Off Topic: black-rabbit, I really dig the avatar! The wife and I watched Watership Down this weekend (a first for her) and I recognized it instantly!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

If I've thrown a model away it's because it was too crushed and/or melted beyond fixing. If I'm not using something it's going into the bitz box and will probably be traded away later.

No way. The only things you throw out are literally the tiny left over hunks of plastic and metal from conversions. Hell even some of those Ive used in making terrain junk lol

If you know someone who makes slot cars then give them your old tank models.

Now THAT I would like to see lol, a slot car Rhino. (That's basicly what happened to a bunch of boxes of car models I never put together that my dad found, they became slot cars, pretty good ones too.)

Ha, ha!
I have a box full of the pre mentioned models painted by epileptic ducks. I cannot bring myself to banish them to the bin in the hope that one day they may be part of a grander scheme. Some piece of terrain not yet conceived that will house them in good stead as dead models.
