All I will say is to consult the statistics for gun crime in the US and compare them to the UK or any other country in Europe, then you'll see why gun control is so heavily regulated in the UK.

This is going to be a big minefield. I say let them have their guns but let them keep theirs where they belong. Don't take them to my place and we'll get along swimmingly. Also don't boast about packing heat during tournaments and whatnots, it's sad and intimidating.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Where you don't have guns, people don't get shot.

They get stabbed or beaten instead.

But at least it keeps people fitter than simply shooting someone.

Though I agree with the person who said "let them have their guns, just don't let them buy ammunition".

yy..ee..ss but you'll note that most Americans manage to quite successfully not get shot.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

When the government banned alcohol, it was impossible to get drunk.

When the Government banned narcotics, nobody could get high.

When the government banned child porn, nobody on 4 Chan had anything to do.

When the government made racial discrimination illegal, nobody was racist anymore.

When the government bans guns, nobody will ever get shot.

Banning guns will not reduce gun crime because criminals have no respect for the law and will still find a way to get guns. In fact banning guns will more likely lead to more innocent people killed by criminals because you are taking away their ability to defend themselves.

criminals with guns + law abiding citizens without = BAD

Please lock this Frazz.

The thing is, you can't apply this to the rest of the world. In my country guns are banned and with good reason blah blah blah.

Here's what I would want to know...if strict gun laws don't work, why does Massachusetts have such low gun crime rates? Our gun laws are very strict, and it would seem as though they work.

For the record, being universally anti-gun is kind of silly. They're tools. Without making differentiations the conversation quickly becomes meaningless.

Civilians? Shotguns and hunting rifles. Should never be infringed upon. Closest to the spirit of the founders' meaning, absolutely have legitimate sporting use, and if you want to defend your home a shotgun is actually your best bet.

Pistols? Automatic rifles? Submachine guns? Law enforcement and military use only, or if for sport stored at a shooting range for explicit use on premises. Civilians don't need to be carrying around pistol,s and automatic rifles and SMGs are explicitly designed to kill other human beings. If you want to learn how to use them, so be it - but then they live at the shooting range.

In the end, the Founding Fathers gave everyone the right to bear arms because firearms were expensive, or family heirlooms, or absolutely needed for defense on the frontier. The right to bear arms was also strongly tied to the existence of citizen militias.

We don't have a frontier anymore and quite frankly the last thing we need are a bunch of civilian militias running around, so just taking a purists' view on gun ownership is quite ignorant in the view of history and intent.

If more people studied the founders, we'd have fewer discussions like these...

Close it. Thread after thread on gun control, when there's actual issues out there that are effecting people's lives with actual policy debate happening.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
