I had a couple games over the weekend vs a friend of mine and he came up with his "Nidzilla stupid" list. It's 14 models, 9 kill points. 6 Carnies, Dakka Flyrant, and 6 ripper bases. Each carnifex has the barbed strangler, and his 3 Godfexes have the crushing claws, and tail attack thing (d6 s10 attacks + d3 s5 attacks each round, 5 wounds, reduces my WS so he needs 3's to hit boys, t7 so they can't wound him without the charge, 2+ save).

I can kill the 3 "regular" carnifexes that are only s9 and like 4 or 5 attacks without the charge, but once I get stuck in with the regular ones, the godfexes roll in and just rape my face. Even my Warboss gets instagibbed vs one of the godfexes and his hive tyrant has those nasty implant attacks so if I get delt 1 wound it turns into 2.

I know I can probably beat him in sieze ground and possibly capture and control, but annihlation is just pretty much an instant loss it seems. I can get the charge on him if I use one of my BW lists but I can really only get the charge on the regular carnifexes (just based on the way he plays them and positions them. If I play defensive he drops 6 templates and 15 t/l to hit and wound shots on me a turn. If I play aggressive he'll sacrifice some models in favor of tearing me apart with the rest of them.

The first game I played against it I conceded before I got tabled. I've redesigned my on the spot 1500 list and I think it's a pretty solid general list (that's how I build lists, not to fight a particular oponent) but if I end up playing him again I find myself worried that I'll run into similar results.

If anybody cares about the list I currently have it's as follows:

HQ
Warboss - Power klaw, attack squig, cybork body [110]

Big mek - KFF [85]

Troops
Slugga boys x19 - nob, power klaw, bosspole [154]

Slugga boys x19 - nob, power klaw, bosspole [154]

Slugga boys x12 - nob, power klaw, bosspole, trukk, red paint, grot riggers [157]

Nobs x7 - Pain boy, cybork bodies, power klaw x2, boss pole, Waaagh Banner, Big choppa x2 [265]

Gretchin x18 - runtherder [64]

Elites
Lootas x9 [135]

Heavy Support
Battle wagon - deff rolla, big shoota, grot riggers, red paint [125]

Battle wagon - deff rolla, big shoota, grot riggers, red paint [125]

Battle wagon - deff rolla, big shoota, grot riggers, red paint [125]

Suggestions to the list as a general fighting list are welcome but I'd more appreciate advice on how to tactically handle what he would throw at me. Thanks in advance!

Drop one battlewagon and the 12 boy squad of slugga's then put your boss and all the nobs on bikes, that way you can get them into CC much quicker and thus any ranged weaponry the fexes or tyrant has will be pointless.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I used to be scared of Tyranids and Nidzillas in particular, but now I laugh at them.

If you want as close to an insta-win as you can get, do this:

1. Go mechanized.

2. Take 3 squads of burna boyz. Put all of them in a battlewagon each. Those are all power weapons in close combat.

3. Take a Mek with a KFF in one of those battlewagons.

4. Put Ghazghkull Thraka in there somewhere. On the Waaaugh! with a 2+ invulnerable save, he can multi-assault two carnifexes and kill them both.

5. Two trukk boy squads, nob with a powerklaw in each.

6. If you have extra points, more trukk boy squads.

A squad of trukk boyz can kill a carnifex. 11 Trukk boyz on the assault get 44 attacks, you'll need 3+ to hit (or 4+ depending on what skills he brought) and 6+ to wound. They'll cause a wound or two. Use them against the elite carnifexes with 3+ armor saves, not the heavy carnifexes with 2+ armor saves. Then, your nob will swing with his powerklaw and kill the carnifex. If he doesn't, he will on the following turn.

Those burna boyz are all using power weapons. 15 burna boyz with 45 attacks on the charge, no armor saves allowed gets killy fast. And when you're packing 3 squads of them, those Nidzillas will evaporate. As for the ripper swarms, you can have a squad of burna boyz giggle at them while dropping 15 flame templates over them.

Your important stuff is all in AV14 front armor with a perma-4+ cover save, and if you *do* get immobilized / weapon destroyed, your big mek might be able to repair it. Roll up the field, concentrate on part of his army, and wipe it out. With a mechanized list, you should always have a turn 2 assault. With Ghazghkull in your list you have a 27" assault range. Covering 13" on turn 1 and 27" on turn 2 is 40". Unless he deployed on the very back table edge, in which case you'll krump into his stuff turn 3.

That's all you really need. Strategy and power weapons. How you deliver them is up to you.

While I know that a list like yours would do very well against nidzilla I'm trying to devise a solid all comers list that would have an answer for this. I dunno about Thraka especially in only 1500 pts (and I don't have the model ) . Mechanized is the solution that I tried last time, though without nobs which I think would have helped greatly vs those pesky godfexes.

I just don't know how effective 3 squads of burna boys in battlewagons would fare against say IG when I'd only have 2 troops and we get an objectives mission. The godsquad of biker nobs seems like it would do okay, I just think taking them in a BW would be cheaper and allow for roughly the same amount of killy power. I'm not sure what putting them on bikes would do for me that being in a battle wagon wouldn't is all (and I don't like using units that give armies bad names).

How does he hold objectives in KP missions? Swarm units such as Rippers can't score. Does he just try and table you each game? Also, with Deffrollas, I might actually try and tank-shock the Nids. If he fails a death or glory, the model is removed. If he doesn't try the Death or Glory, that's a lot of S10 hits on a Carnifex/Hive Tyrant. Yeah, he's got a good chance of wrecking the rammer, but if the BW has already delivered its cargo, what do you have to lose?

For a take all comers list, let me make a revision:

1. One unit of burna boyz, inside a battlewagon. They will still kill all those 2+ save T7 Nidzillas.

2. One unit of Tankbustas, inside a battlewagon. No tanks in a nidzilla army, so all those STR8 AP3 shots are free for you to insta-nuke a 3+ SV elite carnifex.
