Howdy I'm interested in building a board, but I'm having no luck finding the standard board size.

I believe that the standard board is considered to be 4' x 6'

Indeed, the Games Workshop modular gameboard is this ^ size.

4'x6', although 6'x'6 is more fun.

Build the biggest board that you can comfortably/uncomfortably house.
You will soon grow out of a small board....
4ftx4ft is pretty much the minimum size.

Don't forget to leave room at the edges for casualties. Alternately, build shelves into the underside or legs.

I always thought it was 4x8.

4x4 in two sections for a total of 4x8 makes a perfect top for a pool table. You can then take it off and it is easier to store if you need access to the table. 4x8 is perfect for a decent Apokalypse game also. I found folding legs that I attached to my 4x6 table at my local home improvement store. It fits neatly in a corner when not in use. Good luck with the project.

The rules refer often to a 6x4 table as their example, I think the previous edition actually specified that as the table size. That's what I've seen virtually all games played on. I find a lot of games go on in a 4x4 section of that.

Yeah the group I belong to is a apoc group so we all have 6000-10000 point armys.
But we need some standard boards to let people do regular games.

Usual tournament size is 6x4. Some smaller points level games can be played on 4x4 (combat patrol/kill team).

A "full sheet" of ply or mdf is 8x4.

It's a small matter of cutting this down to size. My club buys the sheets in 8x4, gets them cut down to 6x4 and keeps the 2x4 strip that's left - out of every 3 boards we bought, we gained a 4th.

With some dowels, it was a simple matter to join the pieces together to make another table.

Instead of cutting them down, we prefer to keep them intact and line off 1' strips on either side to keep casualties, dice, rulers, books, drinks, ashtrays, etc.
