Ok here is the situation. I love minis and gaming. I am the guy who goes on forums oogles over the new minis put out by obscure companies. I like skimish minis with unique sculpts. I care about painting minis. I love to look up tactics on how to use my models and spend time on forums. I like taking parts in tournaments. The thing is no one at my LGS cares about this kind of stuff. They get into games with the most boring rules, ugly minis, they love pre-paints, and care nothing about what is coming out until it shows up. Tactics wise they just roll dice and push models and have no interest in events. Because I am the guy who travels to other stores to take part in events or orderes from small little publishers I am seen as not supporting my store.
So does that mean I am TFG?

No, TFG tends to be a jackass and in general not fun to be around.

You're just a games enthusiast. If your store doesn't have the hobby support that you're looking for (namely events or other games) you shouldn't feel guilty for going somewhere else to participate in tournaments/whatnot.

No, it just means you should go and play in Tournaments. Might not be my cup of tea like but at least you are guaranteed at least a half decent game against a fairly competent fellow gamer.

Have you researched into local gaming clubs?

I'm pretty spoilt where I am, with a local GW and a rapidly growing Gaming Club (from 10 or so to 30 members in a matter of weeks!) so I can only suggest the research thingy.

In fact, the GW Store Finder (in the UK at least) also flags up gaming clubs registered with GW. Good place to start. All you need is your Post (Zip) Code, and a search radius.

Aslong as you are willing to accept the Gaming aspect is just as valid as the Hobby aspect , you wouldnt be TFG.

with that said , here is a good example to many people that would be considered TFG :

No your not TFG. On the other hand, so what. Enjoy yourself. Your not bound to support "your" store if their not supporting you.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

From what he said, it's not so much about the store, as the stores patrons.

I am very similar to you. I have bought more minis that I just like and want to paint but don't care for the game system than I can count.

I would call our kind game connoisseurs.

With that said I have found a lgs that is run by people who live for 40k and have NO problem trying other systems. I really like the shop even if there are some douches occasionally.

I see that you are in Fenton.
Festus, here.

Would you be referring to Miniature Market, or is there somewhere else I should know about, too?

Nope not there. I will have to look into them though now that you mention them.
LGS is a loose term lol. I was referring to fantasy games in Ofallon Ill. The employees are all avid 40k players. I stepped in during an escalation league and they all took me in like I was an old friend. Made some good buddies there.

You just seem to be more into the hobby than they are. They sound more "casual" about it and invest less time and money in it than people like you and I do. You just have to find some like minded enthusiasts. You don't sound so different from thousands of people on boards like these.

I wouldnt worry, generally, if youre asking yourself 'am I tfg?' you are not tfg.

It sounds more to me like they are there for the social aspect of it. They go there to play games with each other, with an emphasise on each other. What games they play and who wins isn't as important. What's important is that they are there at that game store haning out with people that aren't their wives/girlfriends/kids.

You sound like you want to play miniature games, with the fact that it's miniature being very important. So while you're talking about new units they are just BSing with each other and killing some time.

Does that sound right or am I off the mark?

What the others have said really...you're not tfg, otherwise you'd probably be thinking that their all tfg's, and if they believe that because you don't 'support your store', then they are tfg, therefore you are not a tfg.

Sorry, that's just how my brain works

There is also more to that then just playing.
I love the game (and alot of differant ones too)
as a store owner, I would much perfer that you bought from me, but I wont hate you if you didnt. I want to see you playing-because that also means I have someone to play with.
And I am not the store owner of what the poster is talking about.
I like to see people having fun playing.
Now I would say if you were telling other customers to only buy from e-bay, and to drive 130 miles down the road to save $2.00, and yet you were in the store almost every day-playing on tables for 6-9 hours a day.
I would tell you to leave-cause your not supporting your local game store. Instead you are driving business away-customers that buy product that pays the rent, which provides a place for everyone to play at.
I dont think you are this kind of a person-thats just my say.

(and I must say- my customers tell people to leave-cause they are not supporting the store, I never have to)

You're not TFG, but, do people at your FLGS see you as TFG?

Usually, TFG is that ass in the corner who wants to win so much that he'll make everyone's 2 or so hours of gaming a complete hell.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.
