Pinning is one of my favourite 40K rules, but it only works effectively if you can find a way to lower your opponent's leadership.
So...
Hive Tyrants and 3 x Zoanthropes with Psychic Scream, creating a potential -4 modifier to your opponent's leadership at the epicentre of the "scream".
Turn 1, move and run the above units to ensure they are within the required 18" of enemy units. Then open fire with as many Barbed Stranglers as you can muster. With only 1 kill needed per unit, most of your opponent's troops will be hitting the dirt.
Probably won't work for the entire game, but should disrupt his shooting long enough to let your genestealers reach his lines.

It could work but I think you'd be spending too many points on a gimmick that won't work against many opponents. Chaos cult troops for example.
And the heavy support slot would be better used with another Carnifex. That'll draw plenty of fire away from the stealers and hurt like hell when it hits.

It works great against armies that are aren't fearless. Oh wait thats ummmm Tau and ummm Sisters and umm and Necrons, Guard but now they can reroll all the tests pretty much.

Actually it was called Psychic Chior...long before guard had one. It is one of the few uses I can see for Zoes, but still, I would rather spend my points elsewhere.
It can work against SM, if you can get them out of their damn transports.

It could work, but honestly, putting your Zoans and Tyrant that close to a couple units is pretty hard, and just for a pinning test? If they pass it its GG as they blow up your stuff... naw, Psychic Screams nice, but most of the other powers are far better.

Actually sisters have the book to make their LD unmodifiable. Dark Eldar have no fearless or stubborn. Guard units can succum to it as long as there is no sisters book or stubborn.

If you can believe it, I've managed to pin necrons with enough strangler shots. The key is to have enough of them to do something. If you're going to take 1, take at least 2 because inevitably one will scatter off the table. If you can, taking 2 fexes with stranglers and a warrior or tyrant with another one you have a good chance of thinning out hordes and eventually forcing Ld9 or even 10 to fail a test, giving you a marked advantage with armies that are high leadership. Less shots coming at bugs = Tyranid Joy

It also helps with combat results against fearless as most fearless units have a leadership of 10 anyway if you win by 2 against the unit and have a -3 you have basically forced 5 saves.
Against nonfearless units it has the benefit of reducing their leadership and making it more likely for them to flee and be swept.
It's not just beneficial for Pinning tests.

Oh and it's cheap as a psychic power. With two Tyranid Hive Tyrants and 3 Zoanthropes you can have a -5 possibly but mostly your probably going to be getting off a -3. I don't really understand why people don't take it it doesn't really make much sense really. It's cheap Zoanthropes can have it Tyrants can have it and anything that modifies leadership is useful in multiple situations.
Here is the deal with Range; Its best to not try and get that -5 but go for a overall -3. It has a 18 inch range so if you space your Zoanthroapes and Tyrants 12 to 15 inches apart then when you move forward your most likely going to at least get a -1.
1 = Zoan
2 = Hive
1 ---- 12 inches ----- 2 -------- 12 inches ------1 ----- 12 inches -----2 ------ 12 inches -------1
As long as you move similar to this you will catch most units with a -2 and some with a -3 and one or 2 with a -4.
