Hey all

I'm in the process of finishing the "building"-stage of my IG army, and I thought I'd share the first of 2 Valk conversions with you

It was really simple but I like it. And maybe it is some kind of inspiration for some people out there...

C &C appreciated!

Cheers,
Capt. E

I quite like it. I need to see it painted to judge for sure but the preliminaries are good.

I have aspirations to buy two valks and turn them into V-22 style contraptions so seeing this has got me all a twitter.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Nice! The rocket pods look a bit odd though, perhaps you could fashion some winglets to attach them to? Think Apache or Hind.

That is a really sweet conversion. I especially like the guardsmen sliding down the rope.

Nice one mate, I look forward to seeing the rest of the army.

Cheers,

Jack.

I like it, but i think that you should beef up the rotor blades, they look a bit thin to me. Also, you can try putting some mini wings out of the sides, to make the rocket pods look a bit more like they should be there. If you are not sure what i am talking about, take a look: http://www.minihelicopter.net/AH64Apache/AH-64%20Apache.jpg the weapons are mounted on small wings, rather than to the body itself

Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.

I love it dude - the fast roping guy ties it up nicely. Everyone's right about the wings though - if you slice the Valk wings at the bend and remove the mini engines, I'll bet the wing tips would make great winglettes. Just my 2 cents.

Oh, and where did you get the 28mm ish HMMWV there?

I totally agree. The Valk is very much like a Hind as is. I would do that if I wanted to convert my Valk.

Awesome. You might consider, if possible, having the rotor blades as removable, for both transport and gaming. I could see that being a problem.

I love, also agree you should mount rocket pods on small apache wings.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Looks great, though I think the rope for the guy sliding down should be attached to the top of the door, rather than the floor, otherwise it would be very awkward to get out

I would also go along with the wing comments.

Otherwise rather cool.

Wow that looks really good, for what it is, a valkyrie with out it's wings basically.

I agreewith the suggestion to beef out the wings, lookd a wee bit flimsy for a machine that size.

Good work mate.

You need a surfboard lashed to the side with "Ghaszgul don't surf!" scrawled across the nose.

Mayhaps a guard colonel with a navy blue cavalry hat inside...

Thanks for all the comments!

Since everyone seems to agree about the wings, I might go and revisit that part

@Frazzled: The rotor blades are removable, yes, so for transport, the valk goes in 3 parts - the stand, the body (plus rope & soldier), and the blades.
As for the surfboard...I think I might actually do that for the second one

@ghosty: I have to make another one anyway. I may as well post a tutorial, since this is really simple.

@Flashman: No, not yet, sorry. I plan on building all the stuff I need for the army before painting.

Looks like you didn't use all of the tail parts; maybe those would make good wings? Not to mention it'll let you keep the big wings for building something else

When I get around to my guard army, Im planning on using 1/48th scale Hind 24 models for the kit-bash basis of my valks.

Nice to see someone take the idea from the opposite direction ^_^

Awesome! Maybe you could make two counter-rotating rotors? One on top the other.

I reckon it'd be sexy as hell if you went in that direction but placed the rotors closer to each other.

I think it would do a lot for your rotor blades if you bent them on a slant/cut the edges on an angle like a lot of helicopter blades that have been posted in this thread - Would make it pop a lot more and reinforce that helicopter feel

Great idea, I love the hind gunship. I do think it would look better if it had a 5 or 6 blade main prop. You've done the abseiling guy really well, he looks great
