I have been thinking about this unit for a while:

5-man Command Squad w/ Apothecary, Standard, 2x LC, 2x SS, MG = 200 points

Compared to other Assault Units:

5 TH/SS Terminators = 200

Vanguard are generally too pricey and unreliable

Sternguard have all the assault punch of a tactical squad

Tactical Squads are loosing if they make it into assault

I don't think it is a super competitive option, and you have to take a Commander to field them. But the idea of giving your HQ choices Feel No Pain, the option to load up on Storm Shields, and a banner that might actually have huge benefits with Combat Tactics, and I think they could be an option.

What do you think?

Current Armies: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (40k), Skorne, Retribution (Warmachine), Vampire Counts (Fantasy)

FNP is not as good for MEQ because most weapons that get rid of the armor save also get rid of FNP. In your example above, the terminator squad will fare better because their saves are more reliable. The terminators would be a tougher unit to face. IMHO command squads just are not worth the points to kit them out since they will die at close to the same rate as without FNP.

FNP is great against small arms fire and regular CC attacks. MEQ is already strong against those, so the marginal benefit of FNP is far lesser than to say a GEQ or ork.
