After a lot of discussion re casting/remodelling/etc, I had a thought - in a recent White Dwarf, Jervis J mentioned in his standard bearer using 'old skool' models in gaming, not just collecting. His specific example was using a Vampire model armed with (i think) two pistols as being armed instead with two wands of fireball (or as close as I can remember, I dont play WHFB). Now JJ appeared perfectly happy to play this model, and (apparently) statisfy WYSIWYG with a simple heads up to his opponent ("Hi mate, this gun toting Vamp actually has two wands, they are just modeled as guns, and they shoot flaming skulls. Cool hey?").

On this basis, do you think these satisfy WYSIWYG:
1) A Daemon Prince on a floating Palanquin - counts as winged? An idea Im tossing around for a DP project (the other idea was a Baron Harkonnen bloated floaty guy for Nurgle DP)
2) CSM armed with arcane wands of flaming skulls!!! Counts as melta guns. Ok, the wands idea may be lame, but provided they dont look like plasma guns or flamers, would this suffice?
3) An 'Ogre Fist' modeled into a 'Power fist' or 'Lightning Claws' for a Aspiring Champion (aka http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/43345-Plague%20Marine%20Aspiring%20Champion.html)

Just looking at the meltagun issue, if you can add flexibility on what 'counts as' whilst staying with in wysiwyg, that opens up other options for financially disadvantaged modellers.

I added this to the P&M forum, as whilst it may be viewed as a 'rule' question, knowing the populace's views may influence P&M decisions (for example, if the palanquin wouldnt be accepted, then I might go a jet pack etc). Im happy if this gets moved.

(also, if you have a conversion in this vein, maybe post a pic here so we can look at it!).

#2 might be problematic, as for the other 2, I 've done that myself!

I have Captain of the Assault whose riding a DE Hellion board, and a SM with a Black Orc's forearm. (Looks like a metal boxing glove.)

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair grab some popcorn and yell JUMP BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Dont see most people caring about those ideas and will most likely let you use them. On the other hand I think it depends on every individual you play. Some might be strict and say no, while others will let you proxy entire armies (not that I would ever proxy an army O_o)

Also when you think about WHFB miniatures and characters... Theres plenty of Lords or Bosses that use dispell scrolls... I dont see him holding a scroll tho...

Over all I think it just comes down to who your playing and their thoughts... I for one wouldnt mind it though.

I'm perfectly fine with stuff like you describe if it is done with some forethought and taste.

Saying a Necromunda Redemptionist model is a priest or some other "counts as" is cool. Heck I even have a giant squig I sort of kitbashed/sculpted that I use as a "counts as" nob so that when I join my warboss to his mob it looks like he is leading the unit with his giant attack squig known as "chompy".

Putting a space marine on a jet ski both painted like Pittsburgh Stealers and saying it's Marenus Calgar? At lest try to respect he game/setting...

ive used the orge fist in many of my 40k chaos armies as a power fist it looks more chaos then a big ole claws hand.

The Melta gun wand idea is great just make sure it has some type of dragon head on it or a huge gem....

I used a Dragon and a rider one time as my deamon prince( IT Wwas 1k sons army but it worked)

1 - he's in the air, so no difficulty in anyone remembering that he can fly (so long as there are no other 'hovering' models who don't count as being winged)
2 - slightly dubious looks-wise, but ok if all 'wands' are clearly identifiable and always count as melta guns (and ideally you have no normal melta guns in the same army)
3 - fine as a power fist, it's just a chaos-mutated fist rather than a mechanical device, presuming all 'giant fists' in the army count as power fists. Not so keen on it counting as a lightning claw though, it just doesn't look very Lightning-claw-ish to me.
