Just around the corner is Gen Con 2009, where fans can get their first real look at the Rogue Trader core rulebook! As part of this momentous occasion, I’ve put together a special surprise.
Back in June, we were proud to participate in Free RPG Day, and the Rogue Trader quick-start booklet Forsaken Bounty was the result. Today, I am pleased to announce that there is a sequel to Forsaken Bounty, a free adventure suitable for the pre-generated characters and quick-start rules from that booklet. It is called Dark Frontier, and it is written by the same author as Forsaken Bounty, Owen Barnes.
Dark Frontier takes your Rogue Trader characters on a perilous journey to a forbidden, alien region of the Koronus Expanse. Can your Explorers discover the secrets of the Dark Frontier? Great risks and great rewards await!
Get it here!

Awesome. It's about time we heard more on RT, and this teaser just makes me even more rabid for it.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I'm really looking forward to the main release, though I have been warned by my FLGS that it can be delayed up to a month or more.

I've gone all giddy. I won't play it but I do like reading these 40k roleplaying books just for the fluff

IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary

Agreed I most likely won't play it as I don't have a gaming group(unless I can play by my myself in which case I will).Yet the fluff in these sort of books is always good(dark heresy comes to mind). Also I like the idea of rogue traders,GW had a good novel IIRC but the series ended on a cliff hanger.

Yeah, sadly they ended the second novel rather abruptly.
I've read through Dark Frontier and I really like what's presented there, a nice change from Dark Heresy to say at the very least.

Yep, played through it last weekend with a subset of our regular Dark Heresy group. Entertaining. I'm interested to see how the general play should flow, as characters seem to be more powerful and more skilled at Rank 1 than Acolytes.
And dude... Archaeotech Hellpistol. wow.

Characters are more powerful mainly because they are more experienced and whatnot in life than a bunch of lowly acolytes.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Nice !! Thanks for the link. I'm really looking forward to this.
The background and the fluff in the Dark Heresy books is great and Rogue Trader may be the kick to get our group playing the RPG.
BTW, the new artwork we've seen is fantastic !!!

Noticed the banner if you go Products=>Roleplaying

It will be pretty cool, that much I can say right now.
BTW, anyone coming to Gencon please drop by the FFG booth, I'll be there running demos for another game of interest to longtime GW players. I'll also be on the Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader panels too.

I have preordered a copy at my local hobby store. Was warned the arrival date could be off but since I will be out of the country until September 1st it doesnt matter.
The local gaming group I run has had a good bit of fun with Dark Heresy and they want to try out the Rogue Trader rules once they come out.
And my pet Chinchilla fully approves of Dark Heresy as well. She found my copy when she escaped her cage and gave it 2 paws up.
(It not only tastes great and is less filling...it makes great bedding material as well it seems).

Now this might be getting ahead of ourselves a little as you haven't even unleashed the second game upon us yet, but I remember back when this was still Black Industries' baby they talked about three 40K RPGs - Dark Heresy, one based around Rogue Traders, and one based around Deathwatch Kill teams. Now you obviously had Dark Heresy before FFG got involved, and now they've continued to support the game and moved onto that reported next phase - the RT game you're about to release - but what about beyond that? Can we expect the initial 'plan' to be stuck to as it has been so far, or is my dream of a massive hard-backed filled to the brim with fluff on the Deathwatch a distant and unlikely dream?

Sure. I'll just tell the bank to put my mortgage repayments on hold for a couple of months, take a week off work, and then fly to America to ask him that one question.

Or tone down the sarcasm and wait a bit till after the show when everyone who did attend posts the news
Cut them some slack, they want to keep some announcements for the show to make it more special and reward those who do attend. Pretty much SOP for companies at Gencon and other shows. SDCC for example, most companies waited to make their big announcements during the show (and I'm still geeking over Miracleman returning finally).
But hey, if you can make the show it should be a good one! And if you can't, then I'd imagine everything that is revealed will be posted here (definitely on the FFG forums).

Then BoLS can post it a week later as news.
