Yeah, you're not, because Simon knows the subject matter that he critiques, lol. So take our words for it...he's showing some impressive skills for that age. Just his command of color is surprising for a six-year-old.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

With his talent he is going to be able to do whatever he wants, so I disagree with you entirely BrookM.
Even if his parents are self-conscious children themselves (this would be very assumptive) the kid will become an adult at some point, and he will yet again have free reign over his life. This is why he has these skills, and on the same note, why he will be independent if he chooses to do so.

Yeah it would have been more relevant to call him a modern Manet, or Monet or something... But, in any case, yes impressionism can seem easy...if you havent tried it before. To make art that can be called impressionistic is not hard, to make GOOD art of the same variety...not so easy.
For 6 years old, his light color and more impressive understanding of perspective is remarkable. If they are indeed done solely by him and this is no way some kind of farce then yes, he could be the next Manet. We shall see... Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and yes he will get exploited, and that point was that yeah great, when hes 20 he can go off and do his own thing, but you know those 14 years of childhood arent important or anything right? I don't know if you have a background as a painter but I work with oils, and find watercolors very intimidating for how unforgiving they are. To be able to paint as good as this young man does at six, he has a gift, which can only get better.

If that kid painted those, then I'm a Monkey's Uncle.
Why do I say this?
Kid paints like a normal 6 year old.
Kid goes on Watercolour Course.
Kid suddenly develops impressive skills.
Kid's Dad.... is an Art dealer An art dealer pulling an audacious scam by taking otherwise utterly 'meh' Watercolours, claim his Son painted them tell the Papers, and then? KERCHING!
Reminds me of a certain other child protege who was a scam.... Little Lord Fauntelroy

I never felt comfortable with watercolor. My stuff tended to be on the tight side, and the loosey-gooseyness of watercolor took me out of my comfort zone. Although as an artist pointed out to me once when we had this exact conversation, you can be tight with watercolor...it's just that the typical landscapes, etc. you see in watercolor are of the looser variety.
I wonder about the compositions...did he pick them? Is he painting from photos? Are any of these something he's doing while watching an instructional video or something? Technique becomes a lot easier if you're just duplicating someone else's movements. And is all of the (what looks like) black pen work his as well, or was that added by someone else to give shape and perspective to the underlying watercolor?
Although it also has to be said that if his parents are art dealers, they're really endangering their careers if this is all a hoax. And it's not like it's that hard to test the kid.

This happens from time to time and most always turns out to be a scam. For instance Marla Olmstead lives close to me. Long story short is that they can not reproduce the quality of work while being filmed by hidden cameras.

Yep, and a shame it was, beside being not that impressive quite frankly. Oh, damn did I hurt the toddlers feelings?
It is very true that this kind of talent is very rare indeed, but I won't jump to conclusions. Besides the fact that most of the art community doesn't know their ass from their head when it comes to abstract art... don't get me started on found object art, which happens to be my favorite... two spoons and a soda can stuck together is not a piece of art, it is a statement of being bored. "Oh, wow, how relevant to the recession, and blablablank stare..."
