Hey, I am brand new to Warhammer. So far I am working on a 1500pt Ultramarines list. I have about 900pts of it so far and have been playing quite a bit with a friend and weekly at our local hobby store/gaming club. Was just wondering what you guys thought of it. Here it is.

HQ1-
Space Marine Captain on Bike
-165pts
Thunder Hammer
Troops:
1) Tactical Squad(10) – 170pts
Flamer
Missile Launcher
2) Tactical Squad(10) – 170pts
Flamer
Missile Launcher
Elite:
1) Dreadnought – 115pts
Heavy Flamer
Twin-linked Heavy Flamer
Dreadnought CCW
2) Ironclad Dreadnought – 165pts
Seismic hammer (with meltagun)
Dreadnought CCW (with heavy flamer)
2 Hunter-killer Missiles
Dedicated Transport – Drop Pod- 35pts (Dred)
Dedicated Transport – Drop Pod w/ DW missile launcher- 55pts (IC Dred)
Dedicated Transport – Drop Pod w/ DW missile launcher- 55pts (Tactical squad)

Heavy Support:
1.) Vindicator- 115pts
Demolisher Cannon
2.) Land Raider – 250pts
Twin-linked heavy bolter
Two twin-linked Lascannons
Fast Attack:
1.) Space Marine Bike Squad (5) – 195pts
1 Sergeant, 4 Bikes, 1 Attack Bike (with captain)
TOTAL- 1475pts

Basically I have 3 troops to capture objectives and what not (the captain makes the bikers a troop choice)
Have two Dred's I will be dropping in droppods on top of the enemy, the flamer will go at any hordes or important targets that will go down easy and the Ironclad will go for the enemies vehicles.

The other pod will be for the tactical squad. Two of the pods have a missile launcher for some added support I have my pods and using the deathwind missile launchers is great. I know they are slightly situational but I have had a lot of success with them at objectives and with hordes. My vindicator will stand back and fire its demolisher, which is insane, and my Land raider will drive up the lines offering backup heavy fire and transporting my other set of marines.

The bikes will zoom around as back up and be used to both take and contest objectives at high speeds....

finally I have 25 pts left, so any tips on where to spend those would be nice. I was thinking maybe a power fist somewhere. Or I could even shave a couple points off somewhere else and fit 1 power fist on each squad sergeant. What do you guys think?

I have also noticed while proxying with someone else's bikes at my gaming club that the bikers weren't quite as effective as I thought they would be. Maybe they aren't supposed to be super effective, especially in melee. Some input would be great

The army consists of several different elements that need to be coordinated: Drop Pods, Landraider, and Bikers.
Such an army is more suited for an experienced player, because is also should make use of the weaknesses of other armies, when and where to attack or withdraw.

I'd opt for a pure drop podded army or a fully transported army. By the way, the transport capabilities of an LR are wasted if a non-Termie unit is transported.

I understand your points. So far though I have had no problems learning the game. I have gamed my whole life and have been catching on to the concepts really well. The only thing I still have to learn, like you said, is how some of the other armies work and their strengths/weaknesses

When I say brand new, I mean compared to the other people in my club playing for 8-10 years. I have been playing for about 2 months now. Almost have this list completed.

Your point about termies in the LR is a good one. I was thinking about as soon as I get this list my next purchase would be assault termis, for the land raider. I would cut out a couple things for them, and at that point could mix N match what I want to play with and start building multiple armies. This is just for my first 1500 pt list so I have a bit of everything and can get started.

But otherwise, is it a good list? How do you think it would perform (in the hands of an experienced player, because I usually don't like holding myself back and delve straight into things..eventually I will be experienced so why start small? hehe)

also about the stuff w/ the powerfists...what do you guys think? I have 25pts left over, and can take some things out if I need. I was also suggested a Multi-melta for the attackbike.

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

just a few things.

The Deathwind missles are a good idea, but if you're dropping your TAC squad (which has NOT been given the weapons it would need to fight in CC) into the middle of the enemy line (which is what it looks like you're intending on doing) you are not using them as they should be used. I would move the deathwind over to the other dread's drop pod, as you're obviously going to be sticking that guy into almost immediately.

I don't think that those hunter-killer missiles will serve you well for the points you've spent on them. just my opinion though. But, if you take the points left you already have and the points from the hunter killers, you could make your bikers and a TAC squad better in CC.

My biggest problem with this army is that it doesn't seem focused. I would orient more towards CC if I were you

I suggest giving the bike captain a relic blade instead of the thunder hammer so you can take advantage of his initiative. Your dreads seem to be equipped well except I think the Ironclad is a little too point heavy. I would drop the hunter-killer missiles if I were you.

As for your army strategy I would also agree that you should go all drop pods or all transports. But do what works best for you.

As for your bikers, I don't believe it is a good idea to throw those into cc. They seems too easy to kill for their points in cc unless they are against small numbers of weak infantry.

I like the list, echoing what was said before, I would suggest altering the dread priorities and loadouts though.

I would drop the HK missiles off the Ironclad and add a second heavy flamer. Use dual heavy flamers to put major hurt on infantry, when combined with the Dreadnought CCWs. Then put the the multi-melta back on the regular dread and add extra armor and use it to pop tanks.

Ok not sure on bike cost of 5 man squads but IMO i thought about a 1500 point bike rush in 750 points I think i crammed 20 bikes with a supercheap captain. No codex on me but drop pod in the dreads with teleport homers on bikes ( think you can take them) you don't need anti horde take the dreads with a plasma cannon heavy flamer DCCW. it kicks but those 2 things and you should cover everything and take 6 bike squads of 5 people then make 3 anti horde heavy bolter flamer power weapon and 3 tank hunting multimelta melta power fist I think that should cove ryour bases and make sure you can take it all one.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, i'll think about that stuff. I'll see what points I can free up and repost it.

and not to be rude..but Davevr your post was a little irritating. I asked for help on how to improve the basic build of the army I have, not to tell me to take out 75% of it and replace it with 6 bike squads...how boring and ridiculous is that? I almost feel like your post is a joke....who suggests that? Especially after I said its my first army and I'm working up to it and have most of it purchased and built already.....

just a ridiculous post.

but anyway, thanks for all the tips again. I will take those hunter killer missiles off the ICD, just thought they gave it some range capabilities.

and the suggestion about the flamers, its not a bad idea. I just have to think. My normal dred was my anti horde and anti troop. The Twin-linked heavy famer is ridiculous coupled with another heavy flamer...idk I love it. I put it on the normal dred because the Ironclad is supposed to be anti vehicile more or less....I just have to decide whats better. Twink linked heavy flamer+heavy flamer and a heavy flamer on one dred.....or a heavy-flamer + multi melta and heavy flamer on second dred....idk if I want to give up my twinlinked....decisions.

Not that Davevr's suggestion was or was not good but are you going to change the list based on any suggestions or is your list "locked in" because you've already bought all the models?

I'm just trying to understand if this is a request for critique or if it is show and tell.

If it's show and tell then play whatever you like. If you're basing your list on the models you own then any critique probably isn't going to be helpful anyway.

It is a little of both. I have most of the models so asking what you guys think but i am willing to make changes.

Changes like, take out hunter killer missiles add powerfists/multi meltas

add an extra bike change drednought configuration....maybe even drop something to add another tactical squad. Nothing huge

but a suggestion to basically keep nothing similar but 2 tactical squads and an HQ and add 750 points of bikes is just ridiculous! Am I being unreasonable thinking his suggestion might of even just been a joke/trolling? Idk seemed silly for me. Might as well have just said "idk maybe you should play orks instead..."

Unreasonable? Maybe not. Rude? Yes. If someone feeds you some BS answers you don't need to attack them.

I don't like hallmonitoring, but I don't think yours was the proper response
