So this is an interesting concept, official training videos to explain the game rules in detail: http://bit.ly/H9Av1

Kinda a neat way to get a good feel for the game, and get rules clarity across at the same time.

They even have actors and costumes! Sure its a little campy, but I give 'em an A for effort.

What does everyone think of this idea? (not to mention the new game)

I had a chance to play test this game at the Hobby Town Show last month. It is a neat little game, and you can't beat the price point. You basically get 3 armies (only enough trays to use 2 at a time) in the main box for $40. The boosters are only for the faction you want to play so you don't end up buying a bunch of minis you don't want.

This will be the a great bridge into miniature war gaming, and the online unit making aspect is a pretty good idea.

The boosters are only for the faction you want to play so you don't end up buying a bunch of minis you don't want.

Sadly, they sell the cases of boosters in a mix of 8 of each faction. So a retail store or distributor may not be able to re-order the faction that sells best. Fail.
Some distributors are breaking down the cases and then upping the price on lose boosters, so stores can order them, but make less profit. No clue why the manufacturer couldn't just ship each faction in a separate case.

The figs are 25mm.

I'm not really impressed with the game.

It may be a good way to introduce people to miniature wargaming though.

My FLGS received a demo box and I've been working on figuring out the rules. Those videos are kind of silly, but they are helping.

At first I wasn't impressed at all with the figures and game, but the more I work with it, the more I really want to like it. The demo figs are a more flexible plastic than GW (more like clix games), and it is a bit tough to get the parts to stay together without glue. In defense of the company, they did include a warning about this in the box. I'm concerned about how well they will hold up to being moved around on the movement trays. I haven't played a game yet, so I can't comment on the mechanics yet.

The Han dragon in the first video may have sealed the deal for me. Sure it is pre-paint and cheap plastic, but re-paint it. I may be picking up a few Han boosters...

They are advertised as 25mm, but you have to interpret that as "25mm from base to top of head". Looking at them, they are much, much smaller than GW, or even Reaper figures. Based on other lines of figures, they appear to more like a 20mm scale.

I have zero interest in the game, but I think the video is a good idea as long as the person making the video(s) is the game designer.

It would be nice if GW did this, I think it would help a lot of new players and potentially clear up some FAQ. It would most likely be detrimental if someone non GW were to try and attempt making the video(s). The last thing 40K needs is someone 'teaching' thousands of other people how to play based on their interpretation of the rules. Get one thing wrong and thousands end up doing it wrong as well.

GW minis are 25mm "heroic" scale...which means 28-30mm actual ruler scale.

25mm? When has GW ever advertised their figs as 25mm?

1st through 3rd Editions of 40K and 1st through 6th edition of Fantasy. They listed it in their rule books as a 25mm wargame.

Well, it's a way to draw attention to the mechanics, I suppose, and which do seem like an interesting departure from more traditional wargames. Amateur theatrics can be painful to witness, however.

Yup. The theatrics guaranteed I didn't get past the 'Roman Commander's' first words. Great way to ruin everything they tried to achieve with the video.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

I have been desensitized to these kind of videos thanks to the likes of DragonStrike and most Live Action Cut Scenes from video games in the 80s & 90s.
