Or, more accurately, sell what is by far and away your most popular and well known range in places that currently don't offer any of your products for sale and aren't large enough to carry a full range as an introductory product in order to promote and spread your brand...

The invasion continues. I was passing through this tiny village "up north" and needed to buy a drink so went into the local store there. Was a tiny little place the size of a garage/car-hold but somehow managed to have a full quarter of the stock as Warhammer FB and 40k. If I weren't getting a rather nefarious look from the shop assistant I would've taken a picture.

Standard business, not just GW.

Many retail outlets are interested in getting in just the top sellers of a line.

We look at it and say WTF? But it's similar to a small hobby shope getting in 12 plastic model kits and just stocking Tigers, Shermans, Blackhawk, Sopwith Camel, Porshe, Jaguar, Model T....etc
The historical guys would say WTF? It's not all about tigers!
The car collectors would say WTF? Why do the idiots always sell Porches and Jaguars?

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I am not suprised. You could have a village store selling gorceries to locals, and a backwall of 40K. You provide a service and make some money selling stuff for locals, you make tyour living selling Gw stuff online at discount, and there is nothing GW can do about it.

You dont want your net retailer hubs in towns where shipping has to account for parking conjection and urban rent. Your sales catchment is ethereal so build your shop in a sleepy village or small town where rent is cheap.

Meanwhile as small rurual shops are failing due to the monolithic supermarkets its a win win, locals get local stuff and you become a valuable part of the community, meanwhile you make your fortune on the internets with a clear 20% markup on a wanted product with a fast resale rate and a very high RRP to compare against.

Besides there is the warm feeling of being able tyo give GW pricing policy 'the finger'.

It a three way win, win, win.

Besides if you get big enough you might get free advertising from repeat customers on the opposite side of the world.

When half of your marketing is geared toward one range, then it will equate to half your sales. Advertise the other races and more will sell.

Or don't kill your cash cow.

Superhuman space soldiers with huge guns and swords and stuff is spot on for the target demographics- primarily males with power fantasies. They have to find ways to make space elves and the like more interesting to that group. But at the end of the day, the bad asses in oversized armor are gonna win. Because guys want to have an army of Wolverine or Superman or Batman, not emo goths. Sure space robots and aliens are pretty cool, but they are still "the other guys". Space knights and evil space knights FTW!

Yet I am in that demographic (i'll admit it) yet I play orks and necrons and am planning on getting into Dark Eldar when they get an update so that logic doesn't work.

You apparently missed the concept of "how to sell something"
Space marines sell more because Space Marines are advertised more.
If Eldar were on the cover of everything, were in the basic box set, were the main focus of the storyline, they'd be a huge seller. they aren't. the end.

They're identifiable, unique without being alienating, and have mass appeal. No reason not to have them as the face of the company.

There is a difference between being identifiable and completely dominating the franchise. Sure, Space Marines are the good guys but who has the T-Shirt with Luke Skywalker on it? Everyone loves Darth Vader, villans are the most fun to play for allot of people and it is just sick to see GW concentrate so much on one army when there are the other races that appeal to a much wider audience. I would be willing to be that if you lump all the non-Space Marine sales into one category, they would sell 2:1 over Space Marines.

I agree that it is sickening to see GW constantly shower SMs with praise and glory... And frankly it's less productive. SMs sell themselves. They don't need perpetual grandstanding in order to fly off the shelves, and they would continue to sell even if GW started giving attention to xenos (for more than just the brief time surrounding a new codex.) GW ought to support their own game by shining the spotlight on what it is that SMs are fighting... They would make more money if they could just divide their attention.

Always love seeing the anti-SM people come out in force to complain with their psychobabble and bs about how if GW just spent more money on their favorite race they would sell more...... space marines have always been the most popular even before GW was advertising them all over the place.

Hopefully the cash generated will go into further R&D and some new minis. I feel the pain of the OP with the army/minis you want not being on sale. But let's face it: GW creates an arms race for which they are the only suppliers. Unless there is a figure black market in Turkmenistan, or some other "stan" we are SOL.
