I´m starting an IG army and I simply refuse to use that excuse for a MBT that GW sells so a question pops in my mind which WWII tank to use as the base for my conversions?

I really like the CARRO ARMATO mainly because it has a turret. lol.

Why not the KV series? A little bit more expensive, but still a popular alternative.

I've always fancied that the Italian M14/41 was a good choice as an alternative for the Russ. Another option might be the French Char D-1.

BTW the site above is a good source of what's available in 1/48th IMO.
Service has been good too.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I like these tanks.

Both of these would be perfect as LRBT with very few modifications. Just strap a new barrel on and find a place to mound the hull weapons and off you go!

Those ar both the same model of tank. They are Panzer 4s.

They would work as Russes

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

I've used a Panzer IV in 40k. It looks alright but at the end of the day it's just a Panzer IV with 40k bits on it. Best way to go, I've found, is get tanks that aren't that famous.

A panzer it´s too popular to work. I prefer a less well known tank or inter war model to use so my army is not so WWII in space.

True, and don't get 1/35; way too big man. Sponsons are the killer really as you don't tend to get them on a vehicle that isn't massive...

I like to stick to something soviet when I do guard, I think that early-mid 20th century Russia was actually beamed here from mars circa 40'000ad.

Of the original ones posted, I can't say I like any of them. The Panzer IV looks good though.

QFT. Go for the British Mark I-V (one through five); it's basically the Leman Russ without the turret!

I got a Mk IV male (1/35) and people at the GW thought it was a FW piece - looks & size like a malcador

Better yet - use a Hummel, which was actually SP Arty. Marders were AT (As noted on the mini as well ) and the small barrel just looks too, well... small
