Hi guys, after finally finishing about 6k of CSM, I have decided my next project will be eldar. Through trades, I have 5 falcons. These are all assembled but unpainted.

Unfortunately, I actually need at least 3 wave serpents for the army I would like to create.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to convert falcons ino serpents? I have the pdf that GW created before the serpent kit came out but it looks a little long winded.

I don't mind buyng the FW turret sets if I have to but the extended hull section is what is giving me trouble.... Any ideas for this?

If people do know of a good way to make the wave serpent turret sets, this would be even better than buying them from FW

Really, I just want something reasonably straight forward and cheap. Don't mind using plasticard and thing as I already have a lot of this.

My modelling skills are not amazing but I can d medium level stuff

Cheers

I didn't worry about the extended hull, frankly. The models aren't to scale anyway, who cares if the hull is extended or not. It's as easily plausible to say that the falcon could hold 4 extra models if it weren't for the extra space dedicated to their hamster cages powering the pulse laser.

So what I did was replace the pulse laser with the eldar command sprue bit--if you don't know what I'm talking about, look up the apocalypse vehicle command sprue, and see the eldar bit. I put that on the side, with the fin extending towards the back, in place of the pulse laser. And I added some odds/ends bits from the vehicle sprue to the front, to represent the energy shield. Voila.

I have also seen where players will paint their falcons in one pattern and their wave serpents in another. Just a thought.

I have ONE "official" wave serpent model in my army (out of 6). The rest were converted up from Falcons in the days prior to the WS existing (but when it had an entry in the codex).

I just lengthened the hull using plasticard, twinned heavy weapons went onto the falcon turret, and instead of the spines for the force field, I used teardrop shaped fake gemstones from a craft store on the front wings (3 on each side).

Agree with all of the above. The easiest way to do it on the cheap is to just make sure that the falcon turret has twin weapons and no pulse laser, and maybe paint it a little different.

carrying it a little further would be to use a plastic spoon as the turret with the guns twinned on it.

Going even further would be to extend the rear with plasticard.

But seriously, nobody should care as long as they have two of the same gun.

There was a white dwarf article back in the day that had templates for the panels that sat under the front wings and then just used two plastic spoons stuck together with twin link weapons like stated above.

It actually looked pretty good, and was easy enough to do when I was like 14.

The turret should be clear enough...

But if you have unpainted kits, you can just buy the Wave Serpent sprues and convert them. I have an unbuilt Serpent kit on my shelf, and it looks like just one sprue, altho you may need weapon sprues too.

The Wave Serpent sprue has the extended body, the turret parts, and the spines for the hull.

Phoenix and I had this conversation pretty recently...he HATES the Wave Serpent turrets and will never use them. We've magnetized his Falcon turrets so that he can swap weapons out at his leisure. One game, it's actually a falcon...Pulse Laser and whatever gets put on the turret. Next game, it's a Serpent...dual starcannons get put on (or whatever he wants to use). Works great. Nobody has ever cared about the extended hull...the turret tells all.

I play

I will magnetize (now doing LED as well) your models for you, send me a DM!

My gallery images show some of my work

Agreed on above. Basically I just glue the 2nd 'twin linked' weapon to the first, and mount it where the Falcon 'non-pulse-laser' weapon goes. I much prefer the falcon turrets. I just buy falcons anymore, and swap out the pulse laser as mentioned above.

I just picked up a Falcon via Craigslist but want to use it as a Wave Serpent. I'm wondering, do you think people at tournies would call foul for the non-extended hull "Wave Serpent," even if the guns on the turret are correct? Someone might say it isn't WYSIWYG or some crap. That would certainly ruin my day.

I used the instructions printed in a White Dwarf to do this before the WS model was available. Mostly just extending the hull with plasticard. They make a weapon turret in their example from a plastic spoon, and I didn't get that looking right. I went with FW turrets and love them
