Im curious what kind of useful armies people can build for 500$.. If this rumor is true about GW going back on their prize support for the 'ard boyz AFTER THE FACT I want to have some ammunition to go at them with

Now, in order to make this army you have to use RETAIL price.. GW DOES charge sales tax from what I can see on their online store so the prize is worth even less

So far I can only get 1700 pts of guard for 500$.. You need to have an average of 5 points per dollar

At current prices a land raider is only about 4 points per dollar and an IG squad is around 3

I do not see how a 2500 pt army is possible with most armies if you have to pay retail + sales tax

Prove me wrong! Show me what you an come up with for 500$ TOTAL including tax

You can do it easily with Necrons. Two Necron Phalanx box sets, an additional lith, and two lords is under 500 bucks.

You can get a tri-lith, 15 destroyer, deceiver army for about 600 retail.

I don't think you can do it without using the 5th edition box army sets.

I know that CSM can do it easily due to the strike force (and by the same token im sure marines can too)..

More curious about non marines or evil marines

Hmmm, I got to 2876. That's five battle forces, for a total of 450 plus tax. This list also fails to use eight gaunts and eight hormagaunts. I could easily scale that list back down to 2500.

The rumor may be untrue.. I just want to know what armies have an excessively difficult time building a useful army

That's 2433 points, so add some special issue wargear to the commanders, maybe some Devilfish upgrade and you're there. That, once again, is five battleforces.

Couldn't you take just 1-2 special characters to get about 1000 pt lead into this for about $30?

The $500 could be some sort of IRS and/or gambling limit. I'm sure folks would be more unhappy if they had to report their prize as income come tax time.

Its them being cheap is all.. if they go this route they could be liable for misrepresenting a prize as well, since I dont think you can make an army for guard for 500$ or many others

15 nobz = 300
9 deff koptas = 315
60 boyz = 390
2 warbosses = 180
= 1290.
taking into account nobz for the boyz (we'll pull them out of our asses since theres no in AoBr and the wargear the bosses come with.

using 3 AoBr boxes 3 trukks.

you also get hte SM part of AoBr. but since you supposedly get like 400 points. thats only1100 points.

Called GW Trade Sales, the branch of GW running 'Ardboyz, and was told that this is just a rumor, and winners will be recieving a 2500pt army, as was stated.

If anyone has info from another source that differs from this, throw it to me in a PM, and I'll pass it on to trade sales.

No aobr for orks or marines.. but this is moot now if GW is going to give us the correct prize

I did just count that if you buy 12 packs of "assault on black reach" (counted in £ though, 500$ is about 300£)
Well, you'll get 2880 points worth of space marines, not to mention a damn army of da ork boyz!
Well... Then you can sell the SM/ork army if you only want one of the armys then you'll cover the taxes by a long shot.
