This battle took place in the wonderful land of Wales, where the rain is a sprinkle and the kebabs give you wind. It was between me (3000pts Speed Freak Orks) Mike (2000pts Orks) and Tim (2000pts Chaos) against Phil (4000pts Black Templars) and Chris (3000pts Crimson Fists).

After 7 hours of gaming in a converted attic my head is fuzzy, but here is a first picture to whet your appetites while I post the rest and get them into some semblance of order...

So here are some pics of the Astartes deployment from right to left. I think it would be a bit boring to list all the stuff that they have, so everything you can see is what they have, plus a drop pod and two terminator squads and two assault squads. The guardsmen were allies/meatshields who bought their mother of a friend along - mr shadowsword!!

Here's our deployment from right to left. My Orks are the mostly red ones, Tims Chaos is loitering around the objective we have to defend, and Mikes Orks are clumped together in Ork fashon on the left...

Turn one was as expected - LAND RAIDER CHAAARRRRGGGEEEE. That was actually the only movement of note!

Shooting was more effective, the shadowsword disintegrated some trukks filled with boyz while the three landraider crusaders started chewing on the meatshield of 20 Orks, surprisingly only causing 8 casualties! I'm glad the machine spirit has a rubbish BS. The venerable MKIV dreadnought named 'Immobulous' tried his best to shoot some greenskins, and took out a trukk.

Assault was as expected, lots of angry Templars and Crimson fist terminators popping out to slice up some boyz!! The 5 Crimson fist assault terminators finished off the rest of the boyz, leaving the two templar squads with nothing to do! But on the left, Helbrecht and his ultimate cool squad of 4 masters of the chapter and 10 man command squad saw ghaz fall out of his smoking battlewagon, they had him in their sights and charged...

So the Orks and Chaos responded to turn one...with a scheduled bombardment and some reinforcements!!

The bombardment was aimed right at their objective, which cleared off some of the sternguard and scouts who had stood there.

The ork boyz that could got their move on, ready to bring on some pain! the ork bikers found themselves bottlenecked in the corner, surrounded by wrecks of trukks, but this didn't stop them shooting at the devestators in the tower and killing the plasma cannon! Ahriman on the left moved closer to the corpse of Ghaz and took a little trick out of his sleeve for Helbrecht. And the Orks in the centre didn't really have many options other than pile into the combat!

Coming in fresh from deepstrike came two squads of stormboyz, one led by Zagstruck. He saw the venerable dreadnought 'Immobilous' and decided to take revenge for his legs. Also, snikrot with his kommandos came out beside the shadowsword, and realised they couldn't hurt it! A squad of khorne beserkers, chaos chosen and Abaddon the despoiler himself walked in off the board edge and annihilated all that was standing on the objective!

Ahriman rolled up his sleeve, and simple as that turned Helbrecht into a spawn. The templars were not happy at their High Marshall dissappearing.

Turn two saw most units engaged in assault, the landraider crews recognised the danger to their objectives, and so abandoning their passengers to the melee, they turned as one to bring their guns to bear on the chaos scum. Deepstriking began for the Astartes, they brought down two terminator squads to the board, the templars squad included a force commander, and the crimson fists were accompanied by a chaplain.

The Templars were enraged at the loss of their high marshall. Furthermore, he had chosen the strategic asset of claiming the head of ghaz, but if he lost this extra objective he lost a point. So their reinforcements arrived by drop pod, slamming into the ground where the landraider was moments ago - disgorging some angry templars who were ready to avenge.

Ork turn two saw some mighty Astartes fall...most devestating was the mighty dreadnought 'Immobolous' who had not moved the whole battle, but zag managed to implant his bionic legs its face, so that left him on the ground.

The second scheduled bombardment hit home, taking out the most hated techmarine who was manning the thunderfire cannon.

All across the battlefield assaults were raging, as the orks ignored the terminators who had arrived and charged into the 'softer' power armoured templars.

Nice battle report, but is this the way you guys always play(ie on the board with this type of terrain/unit setup)? Seems like you basically just charge at each other with no cover and assault? I would rather play a smaller point count game and turn the board the long way and put more cover in between, or use the hardwood floor I think I see underneath the board as additional room. I just don't see how you are really going to use anything close to strategy in a game like that and would rely mostly on what your army list was (ie full of assault-friendly units).

In the embrace of the great Nurgle, I am no longer afraid, for with His pestilential favour I have become that which I once most feared: Death.

They are playing apocalypse, aren't they? That means lots of models taking the space all kinds of terrain need. I think the table should be about 8*8. I am not too familiar with apoc rules, but I think the space between two opposing forces during deployment is much smaller than in normal games. Apocalypse isn't about being strategic. It's about fun, masses of models (bringing every model you own), destruction and overpowered combinations and stratagems.

To lose Ghazzy first turn had to hurt. I wish those poor Orkies the best, but there seems to be an awful lot of heavy armor still on that table and less and less good options for the Chaos and Ork boyz to krump it with.

This match must have been a blast to play, how long did you end up having to wait between turns?

Lack of ready made terrain? Maybe they just like large open firelanes or avoiding slowing the game down with difficult terrain rolls all over. Could be anything.
