One of my Best Friend's for his sake i will call him the Space Wolf guy. Hate's the game now and only games on his 360, He kept getting brutally beaten by like everyone he always got paired up with a Eldar player that often got on his nerve's and often used him as a meat shield. He eventually quit after fighting a Dark Eldar army.

He had one anti armor Havoc Squad and one anti infantry and a whirl wind, he had 2-3 Tac squad's jump trooper's termy's and a Chapter master and a Chaplin, he played with the Regular codex.

The Space Wolf Guy has been my friend easily since preschool, and is a great person, but he tend's to get angry, like Khorne Angry. He was excited about the Wolves update, I have considered trying that to get him into the spirit.

What should i do guy's?

Get him to read a few tactics guides here. I'm sure plenty of the members here would be willing to help.

Why does he keep losing? ( can you tell what he is doing wrong? ) is it his composition? or the way he plays?

Did he ever attempt to seek advice from you before he stopped gaming ?

(Where do you guys play at? great white miniatures?)

He Played very aggresively, He never bought rhino's so he lost his Havoc's weapon's most of the time Generally just not fully understanding the rule's

He did have a Dreadnaught but it always got blown up, I think the die hated him, and yes I tried very hard to help him out, being Chaos i did anything i could, even reading the codex with him.

We do play at Great White, seeing as you'r a fellow Canadian Luna, i'm assuming that's whatca mean.

16 both of us, and i've been playing for the better part of a year and he started.. maybe in may? we just started really, and you miss PG? I don't like it as much but I don't know any other place very well I was born in PG but Lived in Seattle for a number of year's

If he started in may , thats... 3 months ish? maybe he needs some time to get used to the game ,
and know how the opponent's army work. Patience is the key i believe at this stage.

Im not sure if i miss PG or not , i stayed there for a week , i dont know the place at all so i go to the store almost everyday.
I dont buy things , so Cameron gets annoyed even more ontop of me poking the minis + touching the comics ( though im very careful as usual )
maybe he thinks im trying to steal things? i have heard him of accusing young customers of doing so.

1 Venerable Dreadnaught, often with plasma cannon or Tled LasCannon
1 Chapter master
1 Chaplin in Termy armor
5 termy's with Assault cannon and a few pw's and a powerfist
4 tac Sqaud's
2 Havoc Squad's one armed with plasmacannon's and Multimelta's the other with Heavy bolter's and lascannon's
a Whirlwind

That's all i can recall i have not seen him since june as of now

Ok... back to the OP .

l would be a bit careful here, especially since you have been friends for so long. On the other hand, if the guy does really get that angry he has some serious teenage angst going on to say the least.

WH40k is an easy game to get frustrated at, but your friend should be playing smaller intro games against less competitive people anyway. The downright truth is that he just may not enjoy the game, which is not all that hard to do if you ask me. I enjoy WH40k but it has to be one of the easiest tabletop games to straight up cheat through power lists I have ever seen. When some one games constantly with those super-competitive formulated armies at your FLGS all the time, you should just avoid those games entirely unless you are toting the same style of army.

In general most gamers get along very well, but some are extremely competitive (sounds like your friend is) and get fed up with games like WH40k that seem to be so extremely imbalanced at times. I have had games where I lost just because of the dice, all it takes is a few rounds of terrible rolls and you lose. If your friend cannot handle the unpredictability of WH40k I think he would be better of doing something else anyway. Don't force your friends to do things that only you are enjoying, it could be one of the best ways to ruin a perfectly healthy relationship.

It also sounds like you should be trying to meet new people anyways. Playing at your FLGS can be a pretty good way to meet some new folks, speaking of which I gotta talk to a few new friends I have made through war-gaming, and I hope to meet more . Have fun, and just enjoy yourself, as well as trying to understand that your friend may just want to play video games instead (yet again, perfectly understandable). Heck, I would honestly recommend you try to get into paintballing with your friend if anything, from what I have heard he would enjoy it quite a bit. Now... do you enjoy paintballing ???

I'd Never force him, Just trying to get an idea how to handle this or try to get him to play again, if worse come's to worse ill save up for my own 360 and we could play on live together

My cousin games X-Box live online and he has actually made a few new friends on there. Overall it is a great system... I just don't enjoy console gaming very much.

One of my friends just got one, and I am impressed with some of the games, my favorite and console game I would play a lot is Left For Dead... games like this only come every so often .

Yes! <3 left for dead, I had a 360 but it broke down, and i could never get it replaced, but i got to play assassin's creed and Halo 3, Left for dead, and Doa5 I had a blast, and Force Unleashed was very fun, the first time i played it.

Paired up with an eldar player that used him as a meat shield? You could try playing some non-team games, unless I misunderstand what that means.

If he needed help he could have asked me. I would have tutored him and let him know whats what with his army.

If I remember correctly he does need rhinos. He also if I remember this correctly as well, had his devs with a mix of weapons due to buying the old boxes. Not sure what he did with them as I havent seen him in a while but he should make 10 man squads. throw the las and plasma into them then combat squad. same with the h bolters and missle launchers.

The one problem I figured he always had was he didnt really have any specific thing he was going for. Kind of just threw together a bunch of models and used them as a list.

Honestly just tell him to come by on weds next week and I will help him out. Give him some tips and pointers.

Oh and to clear things up for you luna.

The current employees are Terry. Leia. Sara jane. And Daton (plays the tau) Tony is still there and Mark who is another ass manager.

Chris got fired a little while back. Grayson eventually quit. They all gather together at another store in town called armoury. Not a very good place as it has a terrible selection of models. Limited space. And the main reason its up and running is because every one there hates Cameron and plays there just to avoid him. Personally he never bothers me. Dont hate or dislike the man myself. Bit of an egotist though.

Also If it was the tourny game that he was paired up with. well he either had the really bad eldar player. The jerk from quinell who well is a jerk I hear XD. I cant imagine Chris would have used him as a meat shield unless he deployed really really terribly.

Have faith my friend, for I too am an Xbox twitcher as well as the PC but I still too feel the call to War of Warhammer 40K.

My advice, is to try playing some games between just the two of you, possibly tell each other what you are thinking as you play so that your friend gets to understand what is going on and what the possible outcomes will be so he can learn from future battles. Such as telling him the reason why you are shooting at a certain target or moving to a certain position.

I was extremely lucky because the guy I play with taught me a great deal, he'd let me play the game and I would ultimatly lose, at the end of the game he gave advice on what i did wrong and what he would have done. Through many games and "patients" I learned to make better lists and started drawing games, then winning games.

The guy has 10year of experience on me, so its useful to have an experience friend willing to teach. Many years on I have taught a few people myself who will hopefully in turn teach others. At the end of the day, its only a game, but anyone would become frustrated at losing everytime.

It's an easy game to get frustrated with and it sounds like he's playing the same people to much. IMO that leads to boredom and if he is losing against them constantly then that sounds extremely frustrating.

His army isn't very optimized, Single dreads (in my experience) never last past the first turn.... I took one once in my DW army vs. sisters.... yeah you can guess what happened.

I would try to mechanize everything up and maybe get him a landraider, but really have him read battle reports and try to play a lot of other people to get more experience. A lot of losing comes from not knowing good tactics, once I started to think and use tactics I noticed I had a lot more wins!

GL to you though, he may just need a break and is a little frustrated ATM, it happens.

Apparently not... Try throwing a game. I do it all the time to keep my one buddy in the hobby. He has phases where he'll be all ahead full with 40K, but the following week want nothing to do with it. When I get around to actually playing a game with him, I'll throw it. This will get him excited again and helps him maintain interest. He's unfortunately developed the "I'm invincible!" complex when playing me, but I don't mind. After loosing time and time again anyone can get discouraged. Throwing a game, while it doesn't necessarily help them learn, it does boost morale and if that's enough to keep them in the hobby then they'll eventually learn what they need to learn.

If i could get him to play that's the problem.

If he plays very aggresively, it is possible that he has the wrong army to match his style. The Eldar player using him as a meat shield sounds like the Eldar player was staying true to his armies nature.........maby your friend needs to take that cue and look for a more agressive army.......

If he really wants to stay with SM, I would suggest that he starts out playing VERY small 1 v 1 games till he figures out his army....
If he plays a list at 500pts, he can focus on just 2-3 units at the most. SMs are also more dangerous at low points as other armies rely on Elites and Heavies to do their work (Eldar and Tau for example) and they just wont have the points once they meet FOC needs. Plus the advantage he gets for having stronger troops than most armies, will balance out his lack of experiance and allow him to learn his opponate's army as well.....

I say let him quit. If he doesn't like the game already he's probably never going to. You guys should become skaters instead.

Crush him utterly, then buy his armies on the cheap.

I always thought he should scrap the wolves and make a Khornate CSM army, i know he'd love raping face and screaming "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!"
