Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

OK I am going to play Baldur's Gate through again but I need a cool char.

Not:

Wizard (NPC)
Paladin (NPC)
Stalker or Swashbuckler type (NPC/ played it)
Barbarian (played it)
Kensai/ anything (played it/ boring)

Baldur's Gate 2:

No: I forget his name, the Stalker. No Jan Jansen either. I want to use Minsc and Korganr, if I can. I was thinking a Cleric/ Mage to buff and cast but maybe I will use Aerie. Bards are stupid and other characters can lore anyway.

So I was thinking (if this is possible): Paladin NPC, Korgan, Minsc, Aerie, Iomen and ... GAH. I need a thief? Maybe a Fighter/ Cleric. I feel like an actual Multi-class for some reason, rather than a Dual-class. I like the thought of Nuke, Tank and Buff rather than sneaking around. Maybe evil Dwarf Fighter Cleric and get those awesome Harm spells.

Bards are stupid? Haer'dalis is the second best character in the game IMO (after Minsc). Also I like Edwin and Viconia better than Arie. Edwin is a fun character. How about Edwin, Viconia, Korgan, Imoen, Minsc. Wasn't Imoen a wizard/thief. That covers alot of bases, and besides Minsc (and imoen who really never seems to care) its an all evil team, which will make taking Korgan easier. I don't remember if Korgan and Minsc will agrue each other out of the group or not though. They might not be possible. I remember Korgan being very disagreeable with other NPCs. Korgan actually was friendly with Mazzy if I'm not mistaken. I always thought that was a cool match up.

In baldurs gate 1 iomen is a thief, in 2 iomen is a thief/mage. Either way, why would you want to be a thief? Why would you need two thieves?

I generally found multi-classes to be a pain as they level slower.

But yeh I agree, bards are useless. What a waste of a character slot that was.

Haer'dalis is not that great of a character, although he is definately "cool". What I am thinking is I am looking towards power building in the Throne of Bhaal expansion. By that time Imoen's thief skills will be rusty. Maybe I will ditch Imoen when I get a chance to take Edwin.

The multi-class is because of the expansion. I would say they are generally weaker otherwise, although a Fighter/ Cleric is kind of a basic char anyway. Although multiclass Fighters may not be able to have greater than two stars in their weapon proficiencies anyway, I would have to look it up.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
ooo and you get like a base or something, don't you. I kind of want that big castle now.

I never played any of the expansions. Mainly because I disagreed with how they duped you into getting them by closing the endings. i.e. after the final episode of the main story it finished, in both games, and there was a ton of sub quests I had yet to finish or even start. Whatsmore both games ended in areas where you couldn't get back to the main map, which meant you couldn't even go back to the save game as you were stuck there.

Saying that, that was my only gripe. Two awesome games, though I preferred 1 to 2.

To be fair, "Throne of Bhaal" was less expansion, and more sequel/conclusion. And it was awesome.

The first character I finished 1 & 2 with was a Fighter/Cleric, a combination I heartily endorse.

*edit: Word of warning: the games are aging, and modern hardware can confuse them. I tried running in an "unsupported" resolution on my 24" monitor (running Windows XP 64-bit, and got a really strange bug, wherein any katanas in my inventory would crash the game. Make sure you find stable settings before you get too involved, and save often.

Also: there is a very active mod scene for BG, with improved/revamped/added relationship trees, if you're looking for something like that.

I never thought you needed more than a multiclassed thief in either BG1 or BG2. After a while it just becomes overkill with the thief skills (and on hard stuff you could always just cast knock and the like). Also I always thought thief/wizard was a good match up because of armor and weapon restrictions, which is why I usually took that as my class.

I am kind of hyped to play this again, I have to think of something cool to do. I will have to take a look at mods again.
