So when I was working a few nights ago I came up with this idea:

Now I made one crystal out of green stuff but i was wondering if there was a different thing i could use to make the crystals.

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

You can go to a science store and but rough cut crystals for cheap. Also look at places like hobby lobby in the jewelry making section.

Yup, carved sprue would be the way to go with this.

why not get a square block of dense styrene and just do the corner cuts then bevel the top? makes great looking crystals if you have a hot wire cutter.

Here are some large ones if you want to buy it. And if you dont , you can use it as reference to color home made ones:

Those are from AT-43, aren't they? Frostbite set? Been looking at getting some, but I don't think anyone still stocks them here (I at least try to shop local if I can - support the local stores and all that - for non-GW stuff).

Crystals that size can be replicated with foam (white will do, but blue is better).

Smaller encrustations of crystals ('blooms') can be done with sprue offcuts (glue two strips of the trapezoidal GW sprues long side to long side then trim to size and shape.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

They show you how to make them in the back of the Necron codex IIRC. But, roughly cut sprue will be more durable and better in the long run.

@N0t_U yea thats what i was saying, take a rectangular block and cut the corners off and then bevel the top and it looks exactly like those crystals in the pic that got posted.

Hey, that looks a very good concept, a little side project I have going on is to LED a destroyer lord (long way off yet, may dettol him tomorrow) and then have his base also contain crystals growing up out of stone.

By the way kind of reminds me of this guy:
