Playing my first Planetstrike game tomorrow, and I will be attacking Imperial Guard. Planet Strike mission. I'm expecting to have to face a lot of tanks, obviously. Are 2 Terminator Squads too much?

Calgar
5 Terminators, cyclone, chainfist
5 Terminators with TH/SS + Land Raider Crusader, multi melta
Ironclad, drop pod
Dreadnought, multimelta, storm bolter
Dreadnought, assault cannon, heavy flamer
Land Speeder, multimelta
Vindicator, seige sheild
10 Tactical Squad, sergeant w melta bomb, multi melta, flamer, rhino
10 Assault Squad, sergeant w power fist, 2x plasma pistol

2000

Unsure if I want to put the regular Terminators in the LRC with Calgar, and Deep Strike the Assault Terminators, since they can assault when they DS. Or maybe drop the LRC for a regular Land Raider as just a tank rather than transport and Deep Strike both squads of Terminators with Calgar.

Also, planning on taking the Ground Observer Strategem for the 5 possible Deep Striking units and the Vindicator.

You are about to fight the toughest defender codex in the game, fortunately, you are playing with IMO the best attacker codex in the game.

The only thing in your list that is suspect is the tac squad.

With ground observer, you can really expect both termie units and the assault squad to be able to get first turn charges. The land raider is still good though, because it is a tough unit to remove and can score.

I can see being a little scared of losing calgar to a mishap though. Maybe he goes in the land raider all by himself.

vindicators, dreads (especially ironclads in drop pods) and chainfist terminators were born to PS. the reason you can't just run them alone is that a good IG defender is going to have loads and loads of penal legion and commissar powered infantry squads. They don't have to kill you. Just stall you long enough for the game to end. Thats why I'm really liking your assault squad. Maybe the tac squad can become another assault squad. Use them to chew through tarpits and rubberband tarpits away from bastions so you can slip in with a chainfist, DCCW or a close range multi-melta and take out the bastions (and all of their annoying automated weapons)

Please, please batrep the game for us. I have been loving reading them, and I am always looking for new strats that people discover playing this new fangled game.

I might rethink this later as well. I'm supposed to be trading my AoBR Orks for a couple more land speeder models. I may drop Calgar in favor of a Relic Blade / SS Captain with a jump pack, and then add more Land Speeders. Or even drop Calgar for another squad of Assault Terminators. If I had another squad of Assault Marines, they would be in the list. Unless I run them in combat squads... they might survive if they deep strike close enough to assault first turn.

I will try and get a Bat Rep, if my opponent doesn't mind slowing down for me to take notes.

Here's the issue with your list. From the 10 games or so I've played with planetstrike, my group has noticed that the attacker has one heck of a hard time winning. If something in your list cannot reliably kill a armor 14 building in one shot, it needs to be taken out of your list.

Calgar needs to go home and stay there, he's just not worth it. Terminator captains with chainfists are the way to go.

Remember this all important rule in planetstrike.... if something can have a chainfist or a melta weapon.... then give it to them. If something can't have a chainfist or a melta weapon, it doesn't need to be in your list.

Truthfully your list most likely won't be able to win depending on how many objectives you use. We use 7-8 objectives.

Here's some must have units...

10 Terminators-490
-2 Assault Cannons, 6 Chainfists

10 Sternguard-325
-9 Combi-meltas
Sergeant
-Powerfist, Combi-melta

My lists that won as attacker were just lots and lots of those two options.

The best Attacker Strategems Are... in this order.... Ground Observer, Skorched Skies, Planetquake Bomb, Meteor Strike.

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.

That's funny because I've been hearing the exact opposite. I will definitely take your advice into consideration.

I recently played a PS mission as defender and I agree, it seems like a real tough deal for the attacker. Including Tigurius to re-roll reserve rolls would be a very good idea.

Also, I don't think that Ironclads can't assault the turn they land - they don't have the deepstrike rule. They happen to ride in a transport that does, but that doesn't mean they have it.

Forward observer allows for rerolls.

I defended for my first time this weekend (3k necrons and 3k CSM (me) vs 6k Eldar), and lemme say, against things with high mobility, mech, and a ton of meltas, its really hard to win. The main reason we won was by locking them up at the first two towers. By the end of the game, both monoliths were immobilized, my partner had only 60 warriors left and a lord, and I only had 2 land raiders and 8 plague marines. Defending is far harder I have noticed than attacking, but its far more intense and rewarding.

As others said, get stuff that can deal with the buildings easily. As attacker your at the advantage in several aspects; having a firestorm, getting to come in first, deep strikers being able to assault the turn they drop. Unless you have a bad first turn, or are facing something rather hard to beat (Nids are very hard to top in PS, same with Demons and IG), defenders are usually playing catch up for most of the game.

I think he means re-rolling your reserves rolls, not scatters.

With a defender with some experience under his belt (no offense meant) the advantage falls on the defender. First off, only tarpits and units that plan to be deployed in bastions should be on the table as a defender. Everything else should be in reserve and you should have a comms tower. So your reserves end up showing up behind the attackers reserves, usually getting their own first turn charges off, and they came in on a re-rollable 3+.

In our group, the defenders records are better than the attackers, but its totally ok, because the attacker CAN win, and I don't think the game would be a lot of fun if the attacker ended up with an almost assured victory.
