2000 pt list:

Shrike
10x Assault Doodz, Sarge w/CLaws (theme and all )
10x Tac Doodz, Flamer, Heavy Bolter, Sarge with a Power Weapon, Rhino
10x Sniper Scouts, Cloaks, Heavy Bolter
5x Scouts with Combat Blades, Sarge with PW
5x Scouts with Combat Blades, Sarge with PW
2x Land Speeder Storm
10x Sternguard, Lascannon, Plasma Cannon, 2x Storm Bolters, Sarge w/ Plasma Pistol
2x Dreadnugget w/TL Lascannon and TL ML
Whirly
5x Dev Squad w/4 Lascannon

Tactics: Two scout squads in landspeeders scout forward full-out, shrike and assault squad infiltrate into position to 1-st turn charge. First turn, use all the heavy weapons to rattle/kill armor, shrike and scout squads charge dangerous shooty bits while Whirly, Stern, Snipers, Tac and landspeeders thin numbers.

Pros:
Enough anti-tank for just about any list.
Enough armor to induce target saturation vs all but the most dedicated AT forces.
3 1st turn charges are psychologically mean, though likely the two scout squads will be charging the same target.
Easy conversion to 1850, 1750 and 1500 pt lists (not a tactical advantage, but nice for me)

Cons:
Fragile for a SM army, nothing over AV12 and a lot of 4+ armor.
Meltas... probably need a few.
Dev squad viable in new edition?
Not enough shots to deal with horde.
Vulnerable to Drop Pods/Deepstriking shooters/Outflanking CC.
Dual-Focus of static shooty and balls-out CC could get in eachother's way.

Thoughts?

-shrike + ASM -> alone and die fast. LC's sound fluffy, but TH is better.
-tac in rhino -> maybve change HB to ML?
-snipers -> could be only 5 to free some points
-scouts in storms -> maybe PF's for the sarge?
-shooty sterns -> storm bolter and plasma pistol should be dropped instantly. Sitting back with plasma or going forward with meltas is their job. Would benefit from a transport too. Maybe some special/ combi weapons and a razorback?
-shooty old style dreads -> nice big targets. Either DS some melta dreads/ ironclads or replace them with typhoon LS.
-whirly -> Not seen him in a RG list for some time. Barrage may do more for you if it is not only a single template....
-lascannon Devs -> Cost a lot and have to aim at one target. So this tank is dead, sure. But other choices could provide more flexibility.
Additional bodys work fine for them. And maybe only 3 heavy weapons. Cheaper with ML devs, but preds could be also something to think of.

1) Well, I would be hoping to support Shrike with the two scouts in storms, but I see the point... with so much else sitting back and shooting, not a lot of other bodies up in the grillz.

2) 6 to one half dozen to the other it seems. I'd have to try each out and see which feels better.

3) True, would have to see what the extra 90 points could get me and if it would be as good as the 5 snipers in a similar role.

4) Was on the fence about this, PW to go at init and all but guarantee the hits count, or, because the squads are small, risk having to put a wound on him and failing my save (I'm REALLY good at that) and losing the attacks altogether...

5) Sounds good. Not a lot of experience playing with Stern... suffering from a a bit of option paralysis.

6) Oddly enough my other list had 2 Ironclads in pods, the Stern in a pod, all guided in by a Scout bike squad... could probably do something similar here and use about the same number of points.

7) Yeah, least-fluffy item in the list for sure... but I had 85 points and only Heavy and Troop slots open. I remember how much I hate these when I ply Eldar, so thought it'd be a decent choice... but likely could use some more templates to make it effective.

8) Yeah, really expensive. I hesitated a lot at that, but wanted to stay away from treads as much as possible, and yet still needed a serious AT threat at range. WIth the spread of AV 13+ I though the ML might be too light a gun, but the option to go anti-troop with the Frag would likely make them a bit more versatile.

Thanks for the tips! Much more constructive than Warseer's "OMG you can't kill 5 AV 14 tanks in a single turn, your list sucks" bullpuckey

I think the army is cut up into too many pieces that can't work together.

The overwhelming charge of the Raven guard will come from

1. The two LSS and the sarges do need powerfists!!
2. Shrike and the infiltrating Assault Squad, PF instead of claws
3. The Sternguard will need a drop pod, and lose the heavy weapons/stormbolters, special ammo is best, plus they have two attacks each so they can weather an assault pretty well, especially if the unit assaulting them just took a bunch of 2+ wounds!

Now you've got three units falling on the enemies heads, and you've got the whirlwind, dreads, and devs shooting from afar.

The tac squad seems lost in between maybe switch them over to a pod as well so you have a reserve unit that can deep strike safely where reinforcements are needed, but give them a meltagun.

Just a couple tweaks on the weapons and transports, I like the idea of an assault piece and a support piece.
Nice work
