I'm assembling plasticard buildings and they need surface detail, an easy way for me to achieve this is with textured spray paint.
I bought a can of Plasti-Kote Stone Touch;
It's pretty good, although I suffer from scaling issues. Normally I'm not bothered, but today I am.
This stuff sprays on and covers well and has an already pleasing colour. It comes out in 28mm scale looking like pebbledash, rather than concrete. This is perfect for my tenement and municipal buildings, I love the effect.
I does however fill in the modeled cracks and divots in the walls, which although is not a disaster, it just adds time as I need to go back over those areas teasing it out of the cracks etc.
Problem is my industrial buildings; I want a finer, more concrete-y finish and thus require a finer grain in textured paint.
This would also stop the paint filling in detail so readily.
Anyone know if this exists? I really don't want to buy GW Roughcoat, but if it's a good but I will.
I see RustOleum do a textured paint, but that looks like an even coarser grain.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Big love,

I dont know, but Lowe's, Home Depot and True Value are my preferred stops. Usually someone there will be willing to help you if you explain the problem. I myself was wondering if anyone had ever tried the beaten metal textured paints and what the end up looking like?

I have tried a few different brands from hobby lobby and run into the same problem you do. The sand is to large for the scale of terrain but works great on rocks and such. After all my testing I prefer the GW roughcoat for my terrain. It hurts to say it as I typically stay away from their spray paints but I have not found anything better yet.

Are you sure? Are you thinking of 'ardcoat?
I'm talking about gritty textured spraypaint.

I use the ultrafine textured that Rustoleum makes. It goes on black and the can cap indicates the courseness. It feels roughly the same as around 800g sandpaper.

Very fine texture but still textured.

Personally, the best "textured" spraypaint I ever found was cheap car primer I found down the Market. "easycoat" or similar.

If you want the texture without using spray paint I have seen videos/tutorials where people have mixed fine sand/etc into their paint and simply brushed it on. I have also use textured spray paints and I think for the ease of use they look great. Seal them with a clearcoat and it should help with flaking/etc.

For a finer look of concrete, do several light dusting with the spray paints black, grey and white. First, find the finest spray particulate you can fine...in my experience, Citadel has the fiest spray. Gray would be a hard color to find so use the regular grey primer as your base coat. Then, lightly dust your project, meaning do not spray directly on the building. Spray above it in a way that the particulate spray with shower the surface. Alternate between black and white and grey.
