Heya all, Karoline here.

I've recently realized that I really want to start playing fantasy, if only so that I can try something new. However, I don't want to just start any army, I have a vision of something unique I want to do, and I'm not entirely sure which army will fit that vision.

To ease the understanding of what I'm trying to do, here's a guy who's done something similar. He made a 40K army of giant robots, ie Gundam/Armored core mecha. He runs them, however, as Tyranids. It works beautifully, and makes perfect sense if you think about it. He had a theme, and he picked the army that best suited it. That's what I'm going to do.

---------------------

The army I'm wanting to make is based off some original fiction of mine, combined with a few other sources that appeal to me. Most of my inspiration comes from the Eilistraeean Drow, mythology regarding Angels, and original fluff.

The Daughters of Zalrutal, Maidens of Luna... More or less what I'm going for.

I want my army to be fast, graceful, and full of magic... Although not necessarily strong. Most of my troops I want to be sort of like 'wardancer-ish', not too much cavalry or ranged. I need something that may not be the strongest or toughest, but is certainly fast and skillful, similar to Eldar Banshees or Harlequins.

Generally, here's what I need...

-Fast, skillful troops... Something that dances into battle and annoys things like dwarves... lol.

-Angels... Something that could reasonably be modeled as an angel. Not prayer/magic angel, but paladin-angel... Warrior angel. Think the platinum angel Magic card.

-Golems... Here, they're crystal golems. I need something that's strong and tough, but not necessarily fast. These are generally going to be the big guys in the army.

I've looked into High and Wood Elves... But I'm not knowledgeable enough in Fantasy to know what I'm looking for. I flipped through Wood Elves and thought they may be my best bet, with the Wardancers and Treemen (flammable golems... heh), but I still can't be sure.

Any help is much appreciated, and if you need any more specifics I'll gladly expand a bit more. There's a lot of story to this, I'm just saving you the trouble of reading it all... lol.

I was a kid now AND a squid now before it was cool.

I think you're looking at Wood Elves.

Golems = Dryads / Treemen

Angels = Eagle Riders

Elves = Elves, with max Wardancers

I think you're looking at Orcs and Goblins.

Fast, skillful troops: Savage Orcs.

Angels: Trolls.

Golems: Squig Hoppers

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Hmmm... You may have a point...

Nah, I'll go with Wood Elves.

Thanks John, that's what I think I would have gone for anyway, lol.

Wardancers = Moondancers

Treekin = Sentinel (crystal Golems)

Great Eagle mounted Heros = Angels

etc. etc.

Once I get started building this (which may take a while, as I need to buy the codex and rulebook before I even start with models) I'll likely start a thread on their progress.

Thanks for the help, lol.

You could also go Daemons but just make them Angelic.

Now that is an excellent suggestion!

Angellic daemons, that would be a new one and a great idea.

Also, as par the origional question i would say that woodelves do fit the bill pretty well due to the varied units they have.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

I thought about that... But I already have a chaos army in 40K... I wanted something a bit new.

Wood elves are where I'm probably going to go, although it'll take a while, as I need money... and I still need to find out exactly how to convert and model my units. lol.
