I am working out variations on a 1500 list for my Black Templars, but I hit this issue with every list:
In a 1500 list w/ either Assault Termies or Crusader squad filled would you field a single Land Raider Crusader?
So............
Single LRC w/ 5 Assault Termies and a Marshal
2 Rhinos
1 Vindicator
1 Tri-Las Predator
Dreadnought
or
Single LRC w/ large Initiate squad and Chaplain
2 Rhinos
1 Vindicator
1 Tri-Las Predator
Dreadnought
or
3 Rhinos w/ EC, Chaplain and Castellan lead initiate squads
1 Vindicator
1 Tri-Las Predator
Dreadnought
Attack Bikes

Question if this is a BT army list where's the Emperor's Champion?
... but any way i would be mightly tempted to lose the Tri-Las Predator (or Vindicator) and the HQ (you only need take the Emperor's Champion) ; so that i could fit in another Land Raider Crusader. I'd also fill them with large (max even) Initiate squad (with the right vow they're hit 3+)
of the 3 options you've give, I think the 3rds best as you could have 1 HQ in each rhino and that means anti tank will be spread evenly over the 3 tanks.

These are not lists, just a question about if I should use a single Land Raider Crusader or split into 3 Rhinos with more support. My LRC gets popped no later then turn 3 and 90% of the time before it unloads.
I don't own a second LR so that is why I am looking at if I should run one or not.

I use 2 LRC with two big CC squads usually. Most of the time i have pretty good success, but i often have trouble with mech IG lists. That is about the only thing that i consistently have trouble with. my ard boyz list:
LRC
Sword breth
Marshall
Chap
EC
LRC
x8 assault termies
x2 crusader squads /w PG PC
x1 in DP
Ven dread in DP
Dread in DP
x2 MM/HF speeders

You should really take advantage of the fact that BT get LRC's as dedicated transports for troops.
2x LRC's with Crusader Squads are pretty tough.

I can see why you question whether to run only one or not. you need to have something else on the board that poses as much of a threat as the LRC if you arent going to run more than one of them.
99% of the time a lone LRC is going to draw fire until it dies. I think you should invest in another if you have the means. because it is often very daunting for your enemy to see two LRCs bearing down on them hard.
However if you dont have the means keep the LRC just use it to draw fire while you get everything else into place. The longer its alive the longer they will concentrate on it.

I like the idea of a second lrc as well. anytime I try and put a list together that doesn't take advantage of their dedicated transport rule it feels like something is missing.

No it hasn't but since every one but BT gets it most sensible players will let you even though they've not got the rule.
Another thing to note about BT is they are one of the last codexs left with dedicated transport that can only be used by the unit the purchased it. So unless you've managed to maxed out your heavy support theres no reason to take them as DT for another squad.

Yes, it has. Unfortunately, it is only in the German FAQ, so you are out of luck unless you can read German.

In my opinion, LRCs are the best part of a Black Templar list. They make fantastic assault transports. Their strengths are heightened by the fact that Black Templars can put some of the best assault troops inside. Assault Terminators with Furious Charge are amazing. Being able to transport 15-man Crusader squads is also amazing. Plus that squad essentially gets frag grenades for free.
What I really like about LRCs is that it gives your assault-based army some decent shooting ability. An LRC is easily the equivalent of a 10-man marine squad with heavy/special weapons.

A list that I find works very well for my brother, a black templars player, it the use of two LRCs and two rhinos his squads are all mounted in vehicles, and the rhinos hide behind the land raiders until they need to deposit their troops. To complement this fast and durable list, my brother also uses a drop podding Dreadnaught w/ multimelta to take out any stubborn enemy tanks or MCs.

I have a hard time fielding two LRC w/ two Troops and then either two Vindicators or combo of Dreadnought and Vindicator.

In 1500, one LRC is fine, particularly if you are fielding plenty of other armor. Vindicators attract a lot of fire, so that will let the Crusader survive until you have at least delivered the troops inside. Between smoke launchers, machine spirit, and AV 14, the LRC is pretty much guaranteed to surive until delivery.
By 1850/2000 points, look to having a 2nd LRC. I like to field 2 LRCs and 2 rhinos (I put an assault term squad in one LRC, a large initiate + EC in the other, and then 10 man crusaders in the rhinos). Then fill the heavy support with vindis/preds. Thats a lot of armor on the field, with some of the best troops inside.
In my opinion, save points in the HQ. A chaplain is nearly pointless when you have an EC with AAC. Marshals are good, but other things tend to have priority for me.

I'm sorry. I neglected to take points into account. The list idea I posted is designed for a 1750 point list. For a 1500 point list I would suggest i LRC and 2 rhinos.
