Subject: Special Characters pt requirements?

Come up a few times is there a minamum point value for every special characters? Or Specific ones? Some codex's say and some don't.
Example using The Masque for Chaos Demons in a 500pt game or using Ghazkull thraka for that matter in the same instance? Went through the rule book and all it says is they can be unique that's basically it.
The Ork Codex I cant find anything that says minimum requirements as well.
Any help is appreciated.
-Cheers

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." ~ HK-47 |

Yes, everyone plays Calgar in their 500 Point Games now... all 250 Points of him. The fact is, the points cost alone balances out. Would you rather have Ghaz or 37 More Boyz in a 500 point game? The only codexes you will find points limits are old 3rd edition Codexes. None since 4th edition IIRC have had a points limit for special characters.

On a similar topic, in those old codexes that still have them they are worded something like this: Chaplain Grimaldus may be included in Black Templar armies of 1500 points or more.
Does this mean the point value has to equal 1500 or more, or does it just refer to a 1500 point game? Could you take him in a 1499 point game for example as often people are a few points under 1500 points in 1500 point games due to uneven point costs.
Can the special character's point cost count towards the point? Grimaldus is about 200 points. Can it be 1500 points counting him, or does it have to be 1500 not counting him?

Technically, the Points value has to be 1500 or more, including the special character. A roster of 1499 cannot have a Character needing 1500. Technically.
In Practice, Games are rated on the agreed limit, with a 1499 roster vs. a 1502 Roster counting as a 1500 point game.

i think it means in games with a maximum army point total of X, so in your example in any game where the maximum point limit is 1500, grimaldus could be used

Many 4th edition books have them, my tau come to mind.
It refers to a 1500 point game. AFAIK the characters points cost counts towards the total points of your army. So yes Grimaldus can be in a 1500 point army, he can be in a 1499 point army as long as your playing a 1500 point game and not a 1499 point game.

Similarly you can't avoid bringing an EC to a 750 point game by only spending 749 points.
