I'm looking to field some wizards and picked up one of the nifty plastic boxes that let you build two wizards.

What are some common options you take for equipping your wizards and why do you like certain magical items: armor, weapons, etc... ?

I dont play Empire but most empire wizards i play against always seem to have many dispell scrolls, is this just coincedence or is therre a reason for it??

The reason for empire usually bringing spell caddies is the following: Most magic is just like shooting, but you opponent can stop it and its random. Empire has solid reliable shooting, why spend gobs of points for something random? Secondly, empire has no special rules making their magic better than other armies, no incentive to load up on magic. Lastly, empire generally needs a BSB and a general with good leadership. This leaves 2 slots for other characters, and 2 lvl 2s will do very little. So this is why you often see a scroll caddy as the third character, and maybe a priest as a speculum holder. (or a wizard with rod of power)

That being said, Empire can bring decent magic, it just isn't seen as being optimal by many.

There are options as well:
A friend of mine plays an arch lector in the war alter and 3 lv 2's. He usually takes fire magic, then 4 scrolls, and the destroyer. Between the lector and the 3x lv 2's you get a lot of spell defense. 7 dispel dice is pretty sweet with 4 scrolls.

For offensive magic, i've seen the lector, 2x lv2's, and a warrior priest with one of the bound items that's not arcane. The Arch lector, gets the speculum, 1+ armor save, and ward from his war alter. So you get his 2 bound spells/prayers but you also get to cast a bound spell from the war alter. Basically its unbreakable, so you crash into the middle of your opponents's line, use the lv 2's that are hiding in cannons or handgunners to cast fire balls, then go for cleansing flare from the war alter. Its a pretty offensive magic phase and effective.

Moving away from the caddy spam you guys seem to be suffering from in your area, the standard set up for tourneys in Oz is:

Arch lector (on WAlter if you are after a comp hit)
Level 2- Rod of power- (always save 1-2 dice per turn, I'd not chance 3), Power stone
Level 2- 2 scrolls, or a scroll and a power stone.

Lets you get off a couple of turns of magic hammer and also allows you to slow the summon spam of VCs or the magic of daemons...

Then take a Capasus with aldreds casket and fly around stealing VC general's summon spell, or DE sorceress' Power of darkness or the spells from tzeentch horrors.

Interesting. Do others get a comp hit for ancient Stegadons or EotG, too?

If you're running pair of mages (and especially if you're running 3 mages), consider taking seal of destruction somewhere as it has decent potential for crippling certain armies magic phases by taking out the crucial spell.
