I like the tubs of resin scenery, but I can get rocks out of my driveway (even though they don't have GW stamped on them )

It seems like GW and Gale Force Nine and a bunch of other companies are buying bags of Woodland Scenics flock and and pouring them into little craft containers and charging insane amounts.

I have a rather large hobby train shop close by where I can get that exact same stuff. I prefer the GW ones because I don't need/use a lot and the small tubs make for excellent bitz storage once empty. I appreciate the information none the less.

They've had those resin thi gs at my flgs for a long while now. Don't think I've seen that brass thi g however. My reason for buying GWs overpriced hobby supplies is store credit, so I don't have to spend "real" money on my hobby.

Well someone can now do the 'Modesty Marines' painted in flesh tones but with the leaf strategically placed to cover their armoured cod-piece.

The IG character models, even though they are catachan, look killer. Gonna hafta postpone that surgery to pay for some of that awesomeness.

Are there any better images of whats on the metallic sprue?

its nice that they have done a more fantasy set to go with the 40k basing set they already released. It looks like the metal sprue is sort of leaves and other random bits. and of course theres better places to get static grass, but considering they sell it in closed up tubs i prefer to get that than the railways sets just in plastic bags.

Those rocks would probably be better used for making terrain IMO.

As near as I can tell, GF9's stuff is not EXACTLY the same as Woodland Scenics. It seems to be a slightly higher quality flock. (Maybe it just seems that way because it's packed more tightly).

GW's stuff, however, is. I'm still amazed that a GW manager actually admitted straight up that GW's flock is just repackaged Woodland Scenics. I can't imagine why people still pay nearly quadruple the price for the exact same product just because it has "GamesWorkshop" on the label. Plastic tubs aren't THAT expensive, are they?!

Also: I kinda like this new basing kit. At least the resin bits SEEM to be the appropriate scale and of interesting sculpt (Who can tell at such a tiny resolution, though?), and I have alot uses for a sprue of brass leaves. Might just inspire me to finish my wood elf army. Only problem I see is the pain in the neck it'll be to bend them to look natural or appropriate when not lying flat on the floor.

Ive bought one shaker of woodland scenics grass and it has still lasted me 3 years even after i've given little bags of the stiff to friends.

I'm not so sure about the brass leaves... what would I want to use those for? Especially the big ones.

Those are for your big Wood Elves army.

That large static grass container is what I usually use. The citadel one is better on urban bases since its more colorful. After about 600 models, i still have about 80% of the container left.

Hasslefree do a series of brass leaves for decorating bases.

I have no use for official GW rocks and I don't like flock, but bits of SF crap are always useful for decorating bases, models and scenery. The GW stuff tends to be always so Imperial though.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

I picked up the Basing kit recently and took pictures of the resin bits for those that are interested:

20/25mm items:

extreme close-up

Other gubbinz:

Every resin bit you see is included twice, for a total of 16 "base inserts" and 28 other items. Etched brass leaves come in 6 different designs for a total of 145 leaves. I didn't take pics of those because I thought GW pic was good enough.

(I posted this here because I didn't see the need for a new thread. However, the original topic title might be misleading since these items have now been released.)

honestly, for the price of those, you can get better items elsewhere.

I just bought 40 25mm resin bases from Back 2 base ix, total cost to me was like $30 USD... which is probably as much as this kit costs.
