ok so I am in a bit of a pickle. I have a hard time deciding on decent paint schemes for space marines. I was planning on doing up an alpha legion to run alongside my guard army for apocalypse games ...however I have a ridiculous amount of Iron hands parts and aside from the portrayal of their primarch in that terrible abomination of a book i call Fulgrim, I actually really like the iron hands. I think they have a lot of character and I like techmarines but inevitably I dislike the iron hands scheme its too plain so I was mulling over the idea of doing a sucessor chapter of them (either using a dark Blue or a red (hopefully not both)mostly cause I really like blue and I've never done anything with red. So one of those as a choice would be nice. I can't think of what to match it with ...however then those stinking space hulk termie models came out. Now for my choices I have had to add in flesh tearers to the mix cause at the end of the day i might dislike blood angels but at least the flesh tearers are cool.

any assistance would be grand.

The distribution of punctuation in your post needs to be addressed.

How about, ignore pretentious posts by users named skipmcne. I understood you clearly.

Why do you have to add flesh tearers?

Firstly I posted this while at work (i work in a call centre) so it was done between calls . My apologies for sloppily putting it together with very little punctuation its my achilles heel if you will. i will attempt to go back and redo the punctuation .

On the idea of Flesh Tearers I dont have to what so ever but if i happen to get a copy of Space Hulk all those really nice models have dumb blood angels insignia everywhere so since the only blood angel chapter i actually like is the Flesh Tearers then those models will probably become Flesh Tearers and at that point why nopt make an army of em

As far as the Brazen claws go I have never attempted a halved army let alone a quartered (if i knew an easy way to do it i probably would )and I am quite certain I would botch it . The red talons are a bit too boring I like having at least two main colors on my marines and the rest all sort of secondary accent colors etc.

Try it, practice on a few models. If you mess up, strip it and start over no harm no foul. The worst thing that happens is you've got a mis-matched army (some squads painted differently than others); which you can either handle with fluff, or say you are in the process of updating - either way it's better than playing grey-plastic-marines.

The red talons are a bit too boring I like having at least two main colors on my marines and the rest all sort of secondary accent colors etc.

So; which chapter has your favorite two color scheme; follow that scheme, and change the base color.
e.g. Blood Ravens, Switch the Base to a Dark Blue; Or, Black Templars, become Red Templars, or White Templars (with red "crosses").
Or take your favorite scheme and change the iconography; (Sable swords).

The Badab war excerpt from Bell of Lost Souls has some interesting schemes; some of which are inferred as "campaign specific camouflage" - you could even go this way if you didn't want to change chapters, but felt you needed to change colors.

If you are looking for suggestions on color theory, try googling and looking at some colorwheels for samples of complimentary schemes.

Get rid of the insignia with a modeling knife. And repair any damage you need to make with greenstuff (if you need to make any damage).
